Strength From Unified Presence ~ Rune and Tarot for 15 June 2017

Strength From Unified Presence ~ Rune and Tarot for 15 June 2017

Strength from unifed presence is what comes to mind as I look at today’s tarot and runecasting. 13 represents the numerology for the tarot cards. I can also reduce that to 4 but I prefer to consider 13 as a Master Witch number. The numerology of the runes reduces to 3, or unification and wholeness and together with the tarot numerology, the overall numerology for the combined reading is 7, or divinity and intuition. 7 also happens to be a number that represents magick.

Two cards from the Major Arcana along with one from the suit of Cups comprise the tarot portion of the reading. The Empress, the 6 of Cups, and The Emperor create a lovely balance with the result of their union represented by the 6 of Cups in the center with its multicolored roots extending in an as above so below manner. Cups represents Elemental Water and our emotional presence, our intuition, and relationships with others. Its direction is West and is represented by the chalice or cauldron signifying receptivity and fertility, as it transmutes Air and Fire into form.

Mannaz, Raidho, and Perthro are today’s runes representing Earth, Air, and Water elements respectively and support the interplay between The Empress and her consort, The Emperor. Take notice of their order in the deck. She appears first and from her flows the entirety of creation signifying her greater importance, the current patriarchy having no place in the equation.

Looking at The Empress and Mannaz first, we see a beautiful white pink-tipped tree with a crescent moon in the night sky above. The Empress represents love, beauty, abundance, and happiness. She is the Goddess in her Mother Aspect, receptive and fertile, and the essence of feminine creativity and the subconscious realm. Mannaz brings into the reading the influence of mankind’s fragility. In disunity, our partnership is threatened, with Mannaz encouraging us to seek assistance from others, understanding that we are part of a greater consciousness with harmony our fundamental goal.

Raidho and the 6 of Cups both discuss the journey we take in form, Raidho signifying harmony and right purpose, the 6 of Cups denoting family and fulfillment. The Wild Unknown Tarot uses animals and trees in its depictions and in the 6 of Cups we see an as above so below expression with the tree above and its massive root system below. Positioned between The Empress and The Emperor, the card reflects all that they create together in balanced unified presence. Raidho indicates rhythmic motion in partnership with others, attuned to a higher purpose.

Finally, The Emperor stands tall representing structure and leadership. Fatherhood and the conscious realm along with benevolence and stability are among this card’s influences. He provides a certain kind of balance to The Empress although without her he would not exist. Boundaries, protection, and order are felt with The Emperor as he assists The Empress in providing the structure for success. Perthro represents the mystery of fate and is thought of as the childbirth rune. Perthro points to correct action, something The Emperor needs to stay in balance. Healing and understanding are among Perthro’s influences and provide The Emperor with a window into the unknown.

Our strength is found in unified presence with the collective consciousness. We are not the bodies we inhabit but in fact, the Creator personified into form. While we understand the idea that our bodies have to work in harmony in order that we continue to live, we miss that application to humanity as a whole. In harmonious union with each other, our roots run deep and provide all the strength we need for an abundant experience.

While the future is unwritten, we instinctively know that in unity, our success is far more assured than when we’re at each others’ throats. It was nice to see both sides of the aisle come together after the shooting yesterday of a Republican Congressman, two Capitol Police officers, and a Lobbyist who were practicing for today’s game. Irrespective of our differences, it’s clear that the only thing to do now is to come together.

The insanity of this moment requires that we pause and remember that we’re one family, no matter how things have been between us of late. It’s time to remember who we are and let the strength of our love guide us forward.

Blessings to all!

Healing Rheumatoid Arthritis With Cannabis

Healing Rheumatoid Arthritis With Cannabis

I really shouldn’t read articles about Rheumatoid Arthritis anymore and I absolutely should NOT read any comments that might be posted. Even when my RA was severe, I could only handle so much time on forums because it was too depressing. Rheumatoid Arthritis sucks. When it took over and became severe, which it remained for thirteen years, my entire life changed. The fatigue alone was like nothing I had ever experienced, more along the lines of mononucleosis than feeling over-worked or having gone without sleep for too long. It was like all the energy I had to even breathe was compromised or missing. I immediately had begun retaining fluid at an alarming rate and my normally frail appearance was replaced by someone I didn’t recognize and since I wasn’t on steroids, this was the disease itself doing this. I felt as if I was sloshing about in boiling hot water. It was horrible. And none of my doctors did a damn thing to deal with that.

I’ve had six rheumatologists over the years with most eventually moving to other areas leaving me wondering what fresh hell I would go through upon meeting a new doctor. My current rheumy never saw me when I was so ill, having come on board after I achieved clinical remission. I’m sure it’s frustrating when there’s not much she can do for me now, but it is what it is.

When I read articles discussing the different issues we experience and then the solutions they offer, I want to scream. But when I read the comments RA sufferers leave, I want to scream and cry. I understand extreme pain because I experienced it 24/7 for all those years. It’s a pain so all-consuming that you enter a new normal that few can relate to. Until joint damage becomes visible, we don’t necessarily look sick. We might walk more slowly and we might forget what we’re saying in the middle of a sentence or where our car is parked or be unable to dress ourselves or walk without help, but it’s all good because most people have all sorts of suggestions for us that if we’d only just try what they suggest our lives would be oh so much better. Right. And then here I come telling people that cannabis can change everything.

After thirteen years with severe rheumatoid arthritis, I became a cannabis patient in 2010 and by the middle of March 2011, I was in clinical remission, something the drugs I was prescribed could never achieve. I never told my rheumy at the time why I was well because he wasn’t interested in signing off on my cannabis card application. If he had ever confronted me about why I suddenly got well, I would have told him. But he never did that and moved away before we legalized recreationally here in Oregon. After that happened, I felt comfortable telling my current rheumy about how I healed. It made no difference, however, because we don’t discuss it, only when am I going to go back on biologics. I’m not. Or how much pain and stiffness do I have upon rising and for how long. None and none unless I overdid it in the garden the day before. I turn sixty in October. I walk four miles per day, sometimes more. I got well. By myself. I fail to see why that’s a problem or why folks just can’t be happy for me.

I want so badly to tell everyone who responds to these articles that they can step off the chronic illness train and take command of their healing. But I know that not everyone has access to the amount of cannabis necessary with which to saturate their bodies in order that they heal. It’s the approach I took, but then I grow my own. I was unable to grow for myself initially so my husband took care of everything until I could finally help with the garden. I processed the cannabis into medicine, but even with that, he would pitch in when my hands gave out or the fatigue was too much. In addition to the plants I have for processed medicine, I keep a few smaller plants to pull leaves from to include in fruit smoothies. Raw cannabis leaf or bud still contains healing plant acids that dissipate when the plant is dried or processed. It also has the advantage of medicating without the psychoactive effect that smoking or ingestion of processed cannabis creates. So it’s a great way to medicate with cannabis during the daytime and I still use it in my daily smoothies.

I also know what it’s like to worry about everything when we’re ill with this awful disease. Could I do all of my grocery shopping or would my husband have to park me in the produce department while he ran around the store getting everything we needed? Or could I even get out of the car and walk into the store at all? Doctors tell us that they understand this disease only so far. I’m not suggesting that these folks aren’t caring or compassionate or good at their jobs, but that there’s an option that many aren’t in a legal position to embrace given the federal issues they and their DEA license could possibly face, particularly with the current Attorney General. And potential cannabis patients face the same concerns when the state in which they live keeps cannabis in all forms illegal. So as much as I would like to flood the comments section for articles on rheumatoid arthritis with how I healed or a link to my first book, Confessions of a Back Porch Herbalist, I don’t. Instead, I head over to the blog and work out my frustrations here.

Before I became a cannabis patient, I had been reading Bruce Lipton’s The Biology of Belief. One day I decided I was fed up with this bullshit disease and I told my body that this had to stop. I began speaking to my cells and telling them that playtime was over and it was time to get on with it. I was done with chronic illness, and I meant it. It was then that I ordered my medical records and sent them to the cannabis clinic in Portland. I received an appointment after they reviewed my records and we drove to Portland on the day of my appointment. I met with a nurse and then the doctor and we chatted about my RA and how cannabis could help me heal. With my signed paperwork in hand, I mailed everything to the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program office and waited a little over a month for my card to arrive. It took a little over a month and then it arrived. And in the time it takes to have a baby, I was in clinical remission. We grew over the summer and after harvest, I had enough to begin making medicine and at the end of December 2010, I was ready to create a medicating program for myself. By the middle of March 2011, I was in clinical remission. I had begun gradually discontinuing my prescribed medications remaining on the biologic until September 2015 when I injected my last dose on September 13.  I’ve had no return of symptoms in almost two years and I continue to support my recovery with cannabis medicines along with herbal tinctures and teas I formulate to keep my immune system functioning normally.

It’s hard to deal with RA even when we have support from the medical community. Because as nice as they all are, all that seems to happen is that we stay in one place. We might fluctuate back and forth and have better days now and then, but we seem to stabilize somewhere and it’s never in the direction of remission. I’ve read about some folks for whom RA is either acute and then over or never seems to dominate their lives, but for many of us, it’s a forever thing. I just decided to reject that premise and try something different. And it worked. And even though not everyone can take that same approach, in time laws and beliefs may change so I’m going to say it anyway:

Cannabis can heal chronic illness. Life can be lived either without or with fewer limitations. After thirteen years of pure hell, I can barely remember what I went through now, probably because I don’t want to, but still, it speaks to a recovery that I didn’t plan on. I thought I would be ill for the rest of my life and I couldn’t have imagined I would feel as I do now. And cannabis did that. A plant that never should have been made illegal has brought healing and a sense of peace that I thought was gone forever.

So, let go of what you think you know about this plant. It just might save your life.

And Now It Hits Home

And Now It Hits Home

And now it hits home. A racist piece of shit stabbed three valiant heroes who tried to protect two girls riding on a MAX train in Portland. Two have died and one is still in the hospital. One girl evidently wore a hijab and the other was African American which was justification enough in this racist shitheel’s mind to begin hurling racial slurs and threats to both girls.

Ben Jacobs, a reporter from The Guardian, was assaulted by an asshole running for office in Montana. Of course the fuckwad won and rumor has it he included an interesting “apology” when giving his acceptance speech. But even if he goes to jail, the governor of Texas was heard talking about shooting journalists, so it’s all good. Not to worry, unless you’re a journalist, that is.

Trump rallies are famous for violence erupting against anyone who they decide is against their guy with Trump himself egging his supporters on. And it doesn’t make any difference if it’s voters or journalists, the response is the same. People get hurt.

No one is safe in this country. No one. Not as long as the so-called commander in chief gives cover to this violence. But then we can’t expect him to have the sort of integrity that Barack Obama had. He would have never put up with this crap from anyone. Even when supporters booed at a campaign rally, he would respond with, don’t boo, vote.

Decorum and civility has vanished, replaced with hate and vitriol with some violence thrown in for good measure. I don’t even recognize this country anymore. I’ve never seen a group of people so intent upon destroying the lives of so many. Everything they are doing is either destroying our social safety net or giving away classified secrets as bragging rights.

But to not be able to ride a MAX train in Portland without fear of assault as well as death? That’s just fucked up. Those girls were minding their own business when the worst thing happened and the lives of everyone involved will never be the same again. Portland’s diversity is one of the reasons it’s a beautiful place to be. This level of hatred that would cause a man to stab these saviors who were only protecting the innocent does not reflect who any of us are. Our country will never be what it can be as long as we see others as the enemy, this truth made all the more evident when a killer was willing to take a life or two on a MAX train all to protect his racist views.

Years ago when my husband and I had our karate school, one of our students was in a bad accident and he ultimately lost one of his legs below the knee. He was flown to Portland to a trauma center for the surgery and we drove down to see him while he was recovering. But at the time, there was a sniper who was shooting at random cars on the Banfield freeway, so we had to take a different route to the hospital. Our kids were with us and it was frightening.

So it’s not that Portland doesn’t have its problems but since the campaign more and more violence is happening and it’s hard to believe that it’s not related to the so-called new guy, particularly when he continues to hold campaign rallies where more nonsense occurs. He’s keeping it all going with no regard for those who are hurt.

Even in our area, would-be bikers hung out in front of our congressman’s office while little old ladies stood outside exercising their Constitutional right to protest peacefully. We can all draw whatever conclusions we want to about all of that, but I view it as harassment. The protesting seniors took it all in stride and resolved to return again and again. But I still think it’s shameful.

This us versus them mentality never leads anywhere positive. As long as we continue to view others who think or look differently as the enemy, the violence will continue.

I remember reading an article a few months back about an official following a woman back to her office and putting his hands on her. After all, if it was good enough for Trump, then it was good for him. He got in some trouble for that, and with luck the new guy in Montana who was charged with assaulting Ben Jacobs will do some time and lose his seat. But I’m not holding my breath.

Evidently, this is how Republicans now roll.

I became a Democrat in 2008 so that I could vote in the Democratic primary. I had always been registered as No Party Affiliation, but I had always voted for Democrats, so I felt comfortable making that commitment. I’m not saying that was a mistake necessarily, but if I had it to do over, I think I would have stayed neutral.

I don’t like the infighting. And I didn’t appreciate the division and vitriol between Bernie’s and Hillary’s supporters. Invariably someone on social media would try to pull me into their drama if I posted something about either one of them. I liked them both, but ultimately I voted for Hillary, telling because I’m basically a Democratic Socialist at heart. But I didn’t like the bullshit then and I don’t like it now.

Mr. Trump, you need to resign. And take that ridiculous Mike Pence with you. Odds are, if the charges stack up, you’ll both be doing time anyway, so I would suggest that you both spend what little time left you have left somewhere else. I’d suggest spending time with your families, but it looks like Jared might need a cellmate, so it might make for difficult dinner conversation. And with your wife reluctant to even hold your hand in public, she’s probably washed her hands of your sorry ass.

And Mr. Trump, as far as I’m concerned, whether the killer voted for you or not, you caused those deaths, you unhinged overgrown man-child, egging your supporters on like you do. You have no clue about how to govern and you can’t keep your mouth shut. You’re a braggart and a fool and that’s the last thing our country needs.

Mr Trump, our home is all we have so leave now, before you destroy anything else. The leaders of the world see you for the fool that you are and one can only imagine the number who are lining up behind Putin to manipulate your puppet ass. How much are you into Vlad for? That you won’t release your tax returns gives us all the answers we need until Mueller completes his investigation. Or maybe will it be the possible RICO charges in New York that sends you off to prison. Either way, it’ll be just desserts.

Not of the chocolate cake variety, but just desserts nonetheless.

Donald Needs A Tarot Reading ~ 22 May 2017

Donald Needs A Tarot Reading ~ 22 May 2017

Donald, it has to be said that Israel is in the Middle East. Why you don’t know that is beyond me. You’d think that some knowledge of geography would be required to hold the highest office in our country, but you seem to skate right by that. Anyway, since you clearly lack direction (pun intended because I’m a funny witch) I decided to do a tarot reading just for you. In fact, this might be a weekly occurrence, more if the situation warrants or if you begin wandering aimlessly.

Since you seemed to like that orb (I confess to some jealousy over that ~ witches do like shiny objects) tarot should be right up your alley. Look. I don’t like to judge, really I don’t, but you’ve got some interesting problems, not the least of which is what comes out of your mouth surpassed only by your lightning fast tweetstorms. You’ve certainly found a creative way to communicate with others. I mean, do you even sleep?

Anyway, the deck I’m using is the Robin Wood tarot deck. It has a pagan/witchy feel to it but it’s not as abstract as Aleister Crowley’s Thoth deck, my personal favorite, but I think you’ll like it. Didn’t I read that your mom was initiated as a Druid? Or was that fake news? I hope it’s true and if so, that’s so cool. I have Druid ancestry so I love that.

In case you’re unfamiliar with tarot, please bear with me if you are, the cards are arranged into sections referred to as Major and Minor Arcanas. The Major Arcana cards are also referred to as trumps, not after you so don’t get a swelled head about it, and they deal with soul archetypes. Yes, you have one, a soul that is.

By the way, the Creator is All That Is. Everything we see and experience, including our own physical reality, is an expression of the Creator, making our fundamental unity a collective vibration of Love. It’s just that when we live our lives here, some of us forget that fact. But more on that later. I usually do a wrap-up at the end of these things so sit tight. Which doesn’t mean that it’s your cue to begin tweeting.

The Minor Arcana is comprised of the small numbered cards and the Court cards. Again, not a nod to any delusions of kingship developing. The Ace of Swords begins the reading with an ornate sword pointing upward surrounded by garlands of white flowers spiraling in a double helix. The great sword of the Magus cuts through illusion, its brilliant countenance enabling full clarity. The Ace of Swords represents ideas emerging from Higher Consciousness. When in balance, our ideas spring from that state of alignment with Source Presence. When not, our ideas spring from our reactions to the world around us instead of from that inner presence within.

Sit with that for a bit. It’s important.

Moving on, there are four suits in tarot, each one corresponding to the four elements. Swords corresponds to Elemental Air (intellectual presence), Pentacles (the next card we’ll look at) corresponds with Earth (physical/material presence), Wands with Fire (catalytic presence), and Cups with Water (emotional presence).

The 5 of Pentacles is heartbreaking in this deck, isn’t it? Two wounded people remain bereft outside a church, snow beginning to fall around them. One individual appears to have lost part of a leg and it’s unclear if sight will return to his/her bandaged right eye. The other individual crouches near the ground trying to stay warm and dry. Neither seems interested in each other, both fully involved in their own sadness.

Moral of the story, Donald, shit happens in life that we’re not prepared for. And when it does, it can consume us. So maybe you should reconsider the whole ACA subsidy thing. We should have gone for single payer or Medicare for all, whatever folks want to call it, but life just works better when we don’t have to worry about whether or not we can see a doctor if we need to. Again, do your ideas manifest as reactions to what you see around you or do they manifest from a higher place of consciousness? The 5 of Pentacles is a window into the future of this country. You don’t make our country great by killing off its citizenry. Surely you can see that.

And now we come to The Fool, the card that begins the Major Arcana, and our journey through life. With his dog at his side, he plays a song on his flute as butterflies flutter about. All options are available to this new soul. Will he choose a life of service to self or a life in greater awareness of others? You can no doubt see the outcome of either choice.

And now we come to the wrap-up. I may get preachy.

It seems to me that the point of this reading is to suggest that you may want to reconsider your focus on destroying people’s lives. You can always make another choice, one that reflects a higher consciousness that I assure you is eagerly waiting to inform you of your true path forward.

Allow our unified presence to reach your awareness, it’s where you’ll find your purpose and that guidance will serve you well.

Allow the resonance of the Creator to fill you with such love and compassion that attending only to the needs of the wealthiest will be anathema to even consider.

It really would be your greatest win of all.

We’ll talk again soon.

Blessings!

Ritual For Unity Of Purpose

Ritual For Unity Of Purpose

Sometimes we become scattered, each one of us off on our own path, unable to come together in unity with others. And yet we instinctively know that together we can accomplish far more than we can alone. Even when we have a clear responsibility to each other, we still find it difficult to come together in unified purpose. So I decided to do a ritual for unity of purpose, offering the energy of that intention to the collective consciousness for anyone who might find it useful.

To cast my intention, I chose Thursday (today) during the 7 pm hour. I chose black and white candles for balance and a blue lapis lazuli merkaba and candle for positive Soul communication. Additionally, I created a sigil for unity of purpose using the Square of Jupiter. The planet corresponding with Thursday, I also chose Jupiter for its expansive influence as well as its teaching qualities. Sometimes a little education is required so that people understand the wisdom of unified purpose, so using that particular square to create a unity sigil made sense.

I chose 7 pm as the appropriate time for the ritual as its correspondences include diversity, care for others, and healing differences. Amethyst as well as various quartz pieces, fluorite, and selenite also appear on the altar to bring in energies of Higher Consciousness to the ritual. Frankincense is the incense that I used.

After lighting the incense and candles, I cast the circle, performed the Blessing of the Norns as well as the Pentagrams of Protection before the actual ritual.

Blessings of the Norns

  • Face East and visualize rays of light moving through you as in the symbol for Awen
  • Dea
  • Beo existere, Verdandi
  • Beo existere, Skuld
  • Beo existere, Urdh
  • Perfectus in caritate
  • Et fiduciam
  • Awen

Pentagrams of Protection

  • Face East, drawing a banishing pentagram in each quarter
  • Dea Aradia…erigo navitas   (east)
  • Dea Brigid…erigo navitas   (south)
  • Dea Tiamat…erigo navitas   (west)
  • Dea Elen…erigo navitas    (north)
  • Coram animus imperium
  • Tergo aqua imperium
  • Dextera incendium imperium
  • Laetrosum terrenus imperium
  • Cinctus excandesco stellae
  • Voluntate servavit et Dea benedictus

Repeat the Blessings of the Norns

Come to alignment and place right hand over the sigil and say:

  • ab initio     (from the beginning)
  • ab intra     (from within)
  • ab origine     (from the Source)
  • alea iacta est     (the die has been cast)
  • audemus jura vostra defendere     (we dare to defend our rights)
  • et simili animos     (and bring like minds)
  • unum est in proposito     (in unified purpose)
  • concilio et labore     (by wisdom and effort)
  • concordia cum veritate     (in harmony with truth)
  • consummatum est     (it is completed)

Repeat the chant three times or as many times as you feel necessary and then close the ritual in your preferred manner. Witches are as individual as the next person and working magick or performing rituals are the same so feel free to begin and end the ritual in a way that makes sense. My rituals begin and end with establishing the circle or sacred space and include various correspondences including the day, hour, moon phase, color, etc. But I don’t belong to a coven or subscribe to any one tradition so I do what resonates for me.

I like sigils whether they’re made using magick squares or circles, or runes. I like how they flow and combine energies in service to a greater purpose and I use them often in magickal workings. I made a smaller version of today’s sigil to be carried in a pocket when communicating with others to help align and unify the moment. Sigils can be drawn on any surface, or carved above a doorway, or in the sand at the beach. I like to draw sigils in the sand and then observe the ocean absorb their resonance, all of Gaia becoming one with my intention.

I offer this ritual with love, my intention only to create the space for unity to exist. It’s a choice that we make, to live in service to self or in loving awareness of Self in others. Unity is our natural state of consciousness, but so many have forgotten that truth. Let this ritual for unity of purpose serve as a reminder of who we are to each other and allow its blessings to fill us with love and joy.

Blessings to all!

Tunnel Vision: An Empath’s Sanctuary

Tunnel Vision: An Empath's Sanctuary

Tunnel vision is traditionally thought to be a hindrance, but for an empath or other sensitive humans, it can be our sanctuary. Empaths have all sorts of strategies when coping with uncomfortable energy and creating a tunnel is one such strategy. A tunnel is visualized providing a safe space from which to either exist or move about. It’s a great strategy to use in crowds or in large stores. Add a witch walk to it and people really move out of your way, especially men.

Coping strategies for empaths are often thought of as a response to our surrounding energetic environment instead of as a sacred space in which we reside. As we prepare our sacred space by creating what we wish to experience, at least in visual terms, challenging or vampiric energies that we experience are easier to deal with. In my case, I have trees that create natural archways around my property and I typically visualize walking under them while in chaotic or otherwise uncomfortable situations. The apple trees are blooming and their smell is pure nirvana, so I’m sure to include their smell in my visualization.

I focus on the sound of bees as they visit each flower and I’m just fine if it seems as if I’m not paying attention anymore because at that point, I’m probably not. Chaos and conflict can be impossible for empaths to handle with all the disparate and conflicting vibrations that we experience. We struggle to make sense of people and situations when retreating to our sacred space is in order. We naturally want to balance the energies that are swirling about us when we really should be minding our own business.

Empaths don’t simply experience what’s unfolding before them, but all the truth or lack thereof that’s behind it, and with each reaction, a energetic channel is created, locking us into an engagement we no longer control. Instead of observing what’s happening, we fully invest our emotional presence in that experience, absorbing vibrations that aren’t our own.

We see a way forward that others just don’t see. The struggle is an illusion that we create, not a fundamental truth that is eternal. The conflict, the strife, is nothing more than a choice; therefore, a different choice can be made. Empathic awareness is soul awareness. It originates from our unified presence with all and empaths benefit greatly from remaining in whatever sacred space we can create.

I’ve found watching the antics of the current regime to be exhausting. But it’s becoming ever more clear that our one family needs to see the effects of this type of chaos so that we refocus our efforts for the betterment of all. Because that’s all it takes, really, the choice to see all that we can accomplish together.

The process of ascension is a given, but it doesn’t mean that catalysts won’t occur to goose things along as it were. Our current president is apparently one such catalyst. With luck, we won’t need too much more to convince us of our folly and he and his friends will go back either to where they came from or to a prison of our choice.

But until that happens, empaths cannot allow the drama and vitriol that’s resulted from all of this mess to derail their peace. Create a tunnel with anything you like. I plan to put some wire over the hoop greenhouse I have and grow all of my melons and gourds out there so that I can go inside as they hang down around me. I also have a dome greenhouse which if my sweet peas cooperate will create a beautiful living flowered cover for my vegetable garden to grow under. Or I have the trees that arch over my path. All serve as a wonderful visualization for sacred space.

Whether we’re empaths or not, our peace of mind invariably takes a back seat to everything else that’s happening around us. We have to stop doing that and begin creating the sacred space from which we view our experiences. It’s a place of strength amid the confusion and deception that we’re experiencing now and one each one of us should make every attempt to cultivate. Otherwise, we absorb the problematic vibrations surrounding us, reacting instead of staying in control, which for empaths is the last thing we need.

A narrow focus, some tunnel vision, provides respite from the storm that’s raging. Create your sacred space making it as beautiful and detailed as you like, and then engage from that blessed still point. We can be of no help to anyone when overwhelmed by the vibrations of others, so take the time to create your own sanctuary of sacred space. Our peace of mind matters that much.

Blessings!

The Sacred Space Of Home ~ Runecasting for 10 May 2017

The Sacred Space Of Home ~ Runecasting for 10 May 2017

Last night was the Full Flower Moon. Symbolic of mystery and emotional presence, witches everywhere stand in observance of the Esbat ritual by drawing down the Moon and communing with their Goddess of choice. I’m partial to Hecate and Brigid but typically I stay more generic, reserving specific Goddesses for Dark Moon ritual.

We set the altar and cast the circle, defining our spiritual workspace if you will. From there, witches may meditate or ride the hedge, or perform magickal workings if needed. I view the Full Moon as a time of purification and alignment with Goddess presence. I also cast the runes, creating a bindrune if energies align which I did for last night’s ritual.

Runes of higher consciousness, openings, and sacred space comprise today’s runecasting. Runes from the Elder Futhark are divided into three groups or Aetts and today’s runes, Algiz, Kenaz, and Othala, are from each aett dealing with practical issues, psychological aspects of self, and universal law.

Representing Air, Fire, and Water, Algiz is our connection between physical and nonphysical aspects of self. Like the horns of the elk, Algiz fosters safety and protection and as the rune of higher consciousness, a connection with the divine resonance within.

Kenaz continues as the rune of openings. Also known as the torch, Kenaz represents the light of truth, healing, and love, revealing secrets by increasing intuition. Transformation and enlightenment are among Kenaz’s primary influences as it lights the way to truth.

Othala is an interesting rune in that rune casters are divided as to its placement in the Elder Futhark. It’s traditionally placed at the end but some switch it with Dagaz, placing that rune as the final rune of the Futhark. I’ve vacillated back and forth on the subject and now I’m back to placing it at the end. Othala is said to contain all energies of the runes as it balances order with chaos, and represents the sacred space of our Akash and universal cosmic law.

A bindrune can be created like the one in the picture above combining the energies of the three runes into a synchronous intention that can then be cast or carried with you like a talisman, bringing the aligned vibrations with you throughout your day. I use bindrunes for both purposes.

What’s nice about this runecasting and bindrune is that it acknowledges our true nature as Source Energy, in unified presence with all. It asks us to remain open to that truth and mindful that all are on the same path to awakening and enlightenment. Some choose a more self-oriented focus while others remain aware of their greater nature as one with all. Either focus is acceptable but one is more challenging than the other. Our perspective while in physical form determines how we see and respond to either choice we make.

When the Moon is full she’s in her full presence reminding us to do the same. During these dark days, we need as much light as we can project to see the truth of what’s going on. This runecasting suggests that perceiving from our higher consciousness allows us to remain open to truth, irrespective of what that might be, secure in the understanding that everything around is a collective projection and as such, subjective and illusory. Finally, Othala reminds us that our sacred space is still safe, protected from the chaos that may be surrounding us. As the Creator, how could we be anything less?

We’re at our best when we stand in our power together as one. The magick of the bindrune is in its synchronicity, both with the runes themselves as well as with our unified presence. We are inextricably bound together, our one family, whether we come together in unity or remain at odds with each other.

Isn’t it time we realized this truth?

Blessings to our one big beautifully messy family! Our underlying love for each other, realized or not, will provide the light necessary to show us the way home.

Where We Find Our Peace ~ Tarot for 9 May 2017

Where We Find Our Peace ~ Tarot for 9 May 2017

Wow. Lots happening today culminating with the new guy firing the Director of the FBI, James Comey. Although firing someone who is investigating him seems to be a trend with this impulse-challenged overgrown child pretending to be our president, the timing seems odd as well as its roll out. It doesn’t appear the new guy thought firing the guy who was investigating him was important enough to do so in person. Instead, Director Comey learned of his dismissal while giving a speech.

We’re circling the drain in this country. Our shared values are being annihilated before our very eyes replaced by a pull it out of his ass mentality, our integrity be damned.

Like many witches, when a situation is unclear, I use divination tools such as runes and tarot cards to gain insight.  The Moon, The Star, and the 8 of Cups comprise today’s tarot reading. Aleister Crowley’s Thoth tarot deck is my favorite tarot deck to use. It’s not conventional, but then neither am I. Lady Frieda Harris’s depiction of each card is so beautiful that it’s easy to become lost in the flowing symbolism of each card, particularly those of the Major Arcana.

Regarding The Moon, from Crowley’s The Book of Thoth as referenced in Duquette’s Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot:

Let the Illusion of the World pass over thee unheeded, as thou goest from the Midnight to the Morning.¹

Isn’t that amazing? Let the Illusion of the World pass over thee unheeded is the key to navigating life in this odd, chaotic experience we’re creating together. Even if we believe we’re victims, ours is a participatory experience. Harris depicts the traditional symbolism of The Moon somewhat differently, including Anubis in dual form, each aligning with a darkened tower. The Moon appears to be spilling into the horizon below as if pouring its secrets into our consciousness. A scarab, an Egyptian symbol for eternity, appears below, its antennae enclosing a golden orb, a gift of clarity and rebirth from The Moon above reminding us that we are indeed an eternal unified presence and we should allow the illusion of the world to pass over…unheeded. In other words, observe what’s happening without becoming caught up in illusion itself.

Preceding The Moon in the Major Arcana, The Star represents our visions and dreams becoming reality. She is the Goddess, the Blessed Conduit between physical and nonphysical aspects of self. Lady Harris illustrates the Goddess pouring blessings from above, her back turned to the world. The star above spirals around her, our energy vortex into form. The Star’s blue, rose, and golden hues suggest peace and calm are possible when our focus is in alignment with our unified presence.

Finally, we come to the most blasé card of the Thoth tarot, the 8 of Cups. Water rather dribbles from lotus blossoms to four cups below. Four of the cups appear to be empty, and the others sparse at best. Indolence is this card’s title suggesting emotional stagnation and a feeling of nothing left to give, a sense of exhaustion dominating the card. We’re counseled to let go of what no longers serves when this card appears in a reading.

Major Arcana cards are considered soul archetypes and when they appear in a reading we’re to take special notice, particularly when more than one present. Given that The Star and The Moon appear consecutively in the Major Arcana, the 17th and 18th cards respectively, together their numerology reduces to the Saturnian number of 8 or structure, manifestation, protection, and discipline.

The overall numerology of the reading is 7 or divinity, intuition, and wholeness. When ill-dignified, 7 can reflect our shadow side of self. Seven reflects the balance we strike between self and other awareness or the choice we make between a self-centered focus or one that embraces and includes others. Together with the 8, do we navigate this life alone or do we manifest our lives in full awareness of our unified presence with all?

Both The Moon and The Star rely on inner vision born from alignment with our Source Presence and suggest that we find our peace in that awareness. Those who choose a self-oriented focus will do anything to continue that choice undisturbed and undeterred. The hidden influence of The Moon may be suggesting that much is happening behind the scenes, the new guy’s recent actions appearing as a response to that activity.

They’ve truly gone as far as they can go with their deception and avarice. Their brazenness will be their undoing in the end, our ultimate peace a welcome relief from the chaos.

When Life Becomes A Preexisting Condition

Life As A Preexisting Condition

In the new guy’s version of life in this country, preexisting conditions should be allowed only for those who can pay for them. And one foolish congressman even went so far as to suggest that the sickest among us should be paying more than people who have remained healthy as if chronic illness or cancer, for example, are due to someone’s irresponsibility or negligence. He probably didn’t like it when the smart girl blew the curve in school either.

But here’s the thing. We live in a country where income inequality is the norm and that translates into not enough money to eat well. Most people don’t grow their own food anymore so they have no control over the pesticides used on the crops or whether or not the seeds used were genetically modified into something our bodies don’t recognize.

Instead, we’re put on the treadmill of chronic disease, beholden to the medical community, although well-meaning, who focus on symptom treatment in lieu of actually figuring out how we became sick in the first place. Other than doctors in functional medicine or herbalists and naturopaths, most don’t consider diet, mindset, emotional issues, or environmental factors that could be at the root of chronic illness preferring instead to prescribe this pill or that injection.

I suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for over thirteen years, but it was for that length of time that it was severe. Nothing the doctors did relieved any of the pain, inflammation, fatigue, swelling, or fluid retention that I experienced. Instead, I seemed to stay in one place, severe. When a commercial came on television selling a medication for RA they would always say it treated moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. I would look at my husband and remark that someday I hoped my RA would be moderate. It was one of those moments of dark humor that got us through those years.

And now that I’ve been in clinical remission for the last six years and off the last of the prescribed drugs since September 2015, my doctor did some blood work and lo and behold, the daily coffees my husband makes that would make a barista blush have affected my glucose level. I got a call from her nurse and she told me that my doctor wants to schedule an A1C test to screen for diabetes. No discussion, or even the glucose number, just go have a test.

Perhaps they didn’t notice in my chart that my primary care doctor when I was so ill had prescribed Metformin after doing a glucose tolerance test and endless A1C tests, diagnosing insulin resistance when my glucose numbers stayed elevated. After becoming a cannabis patient in June 2010 and making my own concentrated medicines at the end of that year, two and one-half months later I was in clinical remission. I began discontinuing several of the prescribed drugs on my own that I could safely do, but when discontinuing the Metformin the same primary care doctor who initially prescribed it helped with that. A change in diet has always been the way to get my glucose number to come down but instead of having that conversation first, it’s test time.

Now with the republicans in the process of destroying health care in this country, the last thing anyone needs is to have a diagnosis of something that’s situational in nature that can then become a preexisting condition. You’d think if Congress wants to go this route of endangering the citizenry so that the wealthiest among us become even more wealthy, they’d legalize cannabis. The tax revenue alone would be staggering. Prescription drug costs would be considerably lower, our collective health likely improving overall, but then the drug companies who line lawmakers’ election coffers might not be so generous at the next election. So the struggle for truth and dignity continues.

Apparently, rape is now a preexisting condition if this monstrosity is signed into law. Does this also apply to children who are raped by their fathers? Will they be punished with a preexisting condition if they report the abuse? The congresspeople who voted for it, my own congressman included, exhibit an astonishing level of moral bankruptcy and have clearly lost their fundamental compassion for humanity. One wonders how they sleep at night, but after today’s kegger at the white house in celebration of their victory, I’m sure they’ll sleep like babies.

If this passes the senate, then women like my daughter-in-law won’t have their pregnancies covered. Medicaid will be trashed and Medicare is next. They’ll leave everyone hanging and people will die as a result. There has never been a clearer example of us versus them ideology than what we’re seeing now. It’s destructive and unsustainable, but it’s full steam ahead anyway.

Even if this doesn’t pass the senate, as members are signaling that it will not, today’s vote gives us a window into the mindset of the people who believe the death of our citizens is an acceptable outcome. But when we finally have health insurance that we can depend on and republicans want to either take that away or make it completely unaffordable, something tells me that our response will be greater than the republicans can imagine let alone survive.

The republicans shouldn’t have targeted women and children in this bill. They shouldn’t have targeted veterans, seniors, or the chronically ill. Because when a mother finds that her child with asthma or cancer can no longer get the care she so desperately needs, trust me the ground will open up around them and shit will get real. Women, mothers or not, are sick of the government’s interference in our lives and as republicans continue their destructive behavior, we’ll pay close attention and then we’ll vote their sorry asses out of office.

I sat by the new hives out in the apiary today watching the new bees become acclimated to their new homes. They exist in unified presence with each other, each one valued and necessary. They work together to feed the brood and to protect their queen. Everything is about the survival of the colony, a notion of family that escapes republicans now in control. None of this surprises me, however, now that the fascist floodgates have been flung open. The cruelty present within the republican mindset is breathtaking. It’s nasty and to think they celebrated with a beer after it was done.

So now we await the Senate’s response. I won’t be holding my breath. Besides, in the process, I’d probably develop another preexisting condition, irresponsible person that I am.

Just ask Mo.

Update: got my blood test results and after Jerry’s insane coffees it was only 114. Now I see why she neglected to mention the number. I wouldn’t have mentioned it either lest I be laughed off the phone. Now ADA recommends <100 even though the test range is 74-106 for fasting 12 hours except that I probably only fasted for 7 or 8. Why does the number keep going down? My theory: it puts more money in the pocket of Big Pharma as more prescriptions are written. Still not drinking anymore of that coffee even though it’s yummilicious.

In Love With Bees

In Love With Bees

I installed a new package of bees in the Warré hive today. The queen was moving around in her small cage when I pried out the cork in the end replacing it with a small marshmallow, only then placing her in her new home. We shook the bees from the container into the hive and put a feeder along with a small pollen patty on the top of the frames to give them some food while they become accustomed to their surroundings.

We lost all four hives last winter. It happens more than beekeepers wish but sometimes there’s nothing we can do when the snow’s so deep we can’t reach them. The colonies just got too cold. They went into winter healthy and never came out again. I was devastated.

So today, when the bees were climbing all over us I was thrilled. I missed them so much and I finally got to experience their trust and unified resonance once more. Growing up, my mother taught me to be afraid of bees. I stepped on a bee in our chicken coop thirty some years ago and received my first bee sting. Six weeks later it happened again. Although my husband has always wanted bees, I couldn’t quite get there until a couple of years ago.

Now beginning our third season as beekeepers, with each year my comfort level grows. The first year I hung back primarily assisting Jerry but by the second year I had purchased the Warré and a horizontal hive and any fear I had was gone. And when I got the call yesterday that the package was in my tears flowed.

You can’t know what it’s like to pull weeds in the garden with bees only inches away, all of us doing our own thing, in synchronicity with the garden itself. The next best gardening companion is a chicken. I used to have one that would come running the minute I began weeding. She loved to help.

But as the fruit trees began blooming this Spring, only local pollinators were visiting, with only a few bumblebees around. The sound of honeybees simply wasn’t there and although I knew that the package and nucs we ordered would eventually be here, I had no idea if they would be here in time to place their essence on the trees. Because it’s a give and take between bees and the plant life that sustains them, there’s nothing like a colony of honeybees to make everything bloom!

The garden flourishes now, prolific and abundant, made so by the bees who visit. And I await the moment when I sit out in the gazebo where a curious honeybee hovers in greeting a couple of inches from my face. It first happened only a day or so after our first colony arrived. She hovered a few inches from my eyes, looking at me. I sat there while she and I sized each other up, and then she was gone. But in that moment, I fell in love and my devotion to the colony has grown exponentially.

Although I regularly perform Reiki on the colonies, today I took a 432hz tuning fork out to the colony after they had settled in for a bit to align with their resonance, essentially tuning the biofield of the hive. As I struck the fork on the puck and moved it around the hive their resonance changed a bit and they seemed to settle down even more. The bulk of the colony was inside the hive surrounding their queen. They may have already eaten through the marshmallow I placed in the opening to her small cage and when she’s released and ready, she’ll take her maiden flight to breed with drones. She takes this flight only once creating millions of bees over the remainder of her life.

An empath, I feel the resonance of the colony, their hum and their unified presence. Performing Reiki with or without the tuning forks is an experience like no other. So it’s as much for me as it is for them. There’s so much stress in the life of a colony with pesticides and parasites and other problems our world forces them to contend with. All they want is to sustain life. They’re an integral part of our lives and yet are at such risk so I do what I can.

But without them, there is no us. The sound of bees is the sound of love and joy. We have an emotional connection to this unified presence if we would only stop and listen to their message. They survive together, never working at cross purposes but only in the preservation of the colony. A beekeeper sits next to her hive, listening to, learning from, and loving these incredible creatures. Their reverence for one another as well as for their queen is astonishing to observe.

Saving them, in turn, saves us. So how about we do that.
