Protection of Family: A Runecasting

The tragic events of the past few days leave me stunned. I’ve never understood hating another for the color of their skin, or anything else for that matter. Somehow, our government decided that we could all have access to assault weapons. Handguns and hunting rifles evidently weren’t enough for our protection, we needed weapons of war. We elect a black man to be our President, twice no less, and cue the rise of racism. But then it has never left us, no matter all the work of so many to create a better world.

We are one family. We are one in Source. Individual differences are an illusion of form. The hate we show others we also show ourselves. We’re better than this. I know it.

When life goes sideways, I cast the runes. They help define my focus. The first rune I drew was Thurisaz, a creation rune, third in the first Aett. It’s one of the most powerful runes of the Elder Futhark. Representing Thor’s Hammer and the thorn, Thurisaz is a rune of protection and defense. Placed in the position of Spirit, Thurisaz neutralizes or contains out-of-control situations. It provides protection against enemies and instructs us to avoid impulsive action. Thurisaz catalyzes change and new beginnings.

Moving deocil to the position of Elemental Water, Mannaz represents humankind and the rational mind. A rune of thought, Mannaz blends our intuition with rationality, increasing our intellectual presence. It tells us that assistance is available from others, that we’re part of a greater whole that’s concerned and involved with our success and happiness.

Tiwaz, the rune of the god, Tyr, represents justice and sacrifice. In the position of Elemental Fire, Tiwaz represents our higher ideals, oaths we take, and the faith we uphold. It’s the spiritual warrior within, assisting us in dealing with conflict and troubles with strength and self-discipline.

In the position of Elemental Earth, Kenaz provides light and guidance, bringing healing and well-being. As the rune of openings, Kenaz awakens intuition, reveals things hidden, and transforms the creative process. More may be going on that we know.

Uruz is in the final position of Elemental Air. The second creation rune of the Elder Futhark, Uruz brings influence of strength, courage, and endurance to the runecasting. As the rune of changes, Uruz initiates or influences such change by force of will, and stops unwanted behavior in a sudden manner. As a creation rune, Uruz brings our focus into form. Change and renewal are possible, always.

We tend to view everything from a physical perspective. What if we viewed it instead from a nonphysical perspective? What if we viewed everything from Source Vision? Seeing all as brothers and sisters, as extensions of Source Energy, as one family. That’s the message of the bindrune in the middle of the runecasting. Othala, Eihwaz, Gebo, Inguz, and Wunjo. Homeland, link between physical/nonphysical presence, balanced energy exchange, the seed, and joy/harmony. The power of Source Energy within to see all with the eyes of Source and to move forward in harmony and love.

We cannot be deterred from our awareness of oneness with all. The violence and hate have no place in our lives. We are Source Energy. We are beyond this type of thought, beyond this type of behavior.

Dea

In Thurisaz we find our strength

In Mannaz we find our humanity

In Tiwaz we find our integrity and honor

In Kenaz we find our light

In Uruz we find our courage

And in Self we find our way

Goddess Blessings to All!
