Perhaps conceiving of this card before achieving clarity himself, Haindl takes a different approach with The Hierophant depicting three generations of men, grandfather, father and son with an emphasis on tradition and the positive aspects of patriarchy. As if there are any. With the rune Raidho in the upper right hand corner, perhaps they’re all on a journey toward awakening, casting off tradition that has served us all so poorly. Its numerology of five suggests change which if centered on the effects of patriarchy is sorely needed.

A brilliant light shines forth behind the three men illuminating a book and key below signifying divine knowledge. The High Priest in other decks, the Hierophant is the enlightened teacher blending knowledge, tradition, and structure, offering that wisdom to all. He retreats from the world to gain clarity and insight.

The 6 of Wands is fairly straightforward and aligns with other decks. Victory and success are depicted by 6 flaming spears pointed upward toward Spirit, their alignment suggesting cooperation and balance. The hexagram is the 2nd from the I Ching indicating responding or the receptive earthly yin aspect of self. The spears at the same height suggests that victory was achieved through cooperative efforts rather than a single warrior’s skill.

Seven gets a bad rap in my estimation. It’s the number for magick and divinity and besides the number thirteen, it’s a witch’s best friend so to speak. Haindl apparently views this card as representing  failure. Because there’s no pattern to the stones, they lack clarity or focus which can result in failure. But where he sees failure, I see a genesis of something new that’s not yet formed. It’s still coming together. All aspects are being considered. The 36th hexagram appears in the top right hand corner called brilliance injured or darkening of the light suggesting the recognition of cyclical nature of life. We go within, our intuition providing the clarity we seek, as we allow our thoughts to settle into understanding.

What resonates here is the need for a receptive or feminine perspective or influence in anything we do. Humanity has lost its inner balance with the masculine overshadowing and oppressing the feminine. The light of truth shines down on the Hierophant, his son, and grandson as they reflect on where we’ve come thus far. The card numbers 5, 6, and 7 suggest a progression of thinking with a final numerology of 9 or completion. Progression toward completion could also indicate a progression toward reunification both with self and with others.

Like the rocks depicted in the 7 of Stones, our family is scattered and off track. We’ve forgotten our essential oneness and have allowed the perception of separation to create division and hate. But we can begin again and come together in genesis of a new experience, one based on love and unity, the destructiveness of patriarchy an unwelcome memory.

Awaiting ClarityLike the snow outside.. which can go away.. like now..

Blessings to all!
