Wisdom Of The Innocent ~ Tarot for 19 February 2018

The innocent among us may possess more inherent wisdom than the rest given their unjaded view of life. But events of the last few days have, once again, challenged that innocence. And now, children are no longer looking to adults for answers. Those of age to vote in November will be doing so, exercising their right to make their desires known. And in this case, it surrounds gun violence that may not be at the level it is had conservatives in Congress not allowed the Assault Weapon’s Ban to expire. Maybe another way might have been found, but I wonder how many children would be alive today, with children of their own, had the Assault Weapons Ban remained in full effect.

The Mother of Swords begins the reading as she does, keenly viewing the world around her. Swords represents our intellect and the Mother‘s intellect stands in balance with her intuition. She is assertive and quick, a woman who stands in her own power, her life an expression of integrity and grace. A powerful witch, The Mother of Swords commands the Air and suffers no fools gladly. She’s watching, waiting, acting only when the precise time has arrived.

The 9 of Pentacles gives the reading its overall numerology of nine or completion and humanitarianism. Four large feathers protectively surround nine pentacles, a blessed container of all that we share. Along with the material aspect of life, Pentacles represent our collective family. And right now, our family is in jeopardy. The 9 of Pentacles illustrates the vital need to protect our greatest treasure, in this case, our children, the red background illustrating the will inherent in that choice.

The reading ends with the only card from the Major Arcana in the reading, The FoolA baby bird sits on a flowering branch, its right foot extended over empty space, ready to take her leap into the abyss of life. Inherent wisdom balanced with innocence drives the bird forward, her instincts growing and developing along the way. Life is simple at this stage when our mothers protect us. As the Mother of Swords does in this reading.

The 9 of Pentacles, in truth, represents the Mother’s children, protected and loved. Then we watch as one hatchling begins her own journey as children do when attending school, a place not just for learning but of protection as well. The reading itself begins with a representation of keen intellect and the refusal to accept nonsense, particularly at the expense of our children’s safety and security.

No matter how we view our constitutional rights, we ought to be able to agree on measures that keep our children safe. We have to trust the world enough to let them out of our sight long enough to attend school if that’s the choice we make. Not everyone chooses that option, but many have no choice in the matter. I’ve been listening to some really amazing voices speaking on this issue the past few days. Inspiring that it’s coming from the very students who experienced this tragedy. Sad that it’s not coming from their representatives in Congress.

No, the Speaker of the House thought it was a good idea to attend a fundraiser after it happened. Donald and his wife Melania thought it was a good idea to attend a “Studio-54 style party at Mar-a-Lago” after bothering people at the hospital. Others in Florida decided it was a good idea to attend a gun show this past weekend while still more groups and politicians are raffling off AR-15 rifles.

We’re going to have to come up with another phrase to describe this crap because tone deaf is no longer cutting it.

It’s President’s Day in America. A shit-show if there ever was one.

Blessed Be
