I began working on the geomancy divination for July a week ago but then my heat pump failed and we’ve been dealing with that. Now that my heat pump is installed, I have air conditioning once again. Heat’s important, but since I’m in my Crone years, heat is the least of my problems. I make my own. Seriously. What I really need is something akin to a meat locker, but since that’s not an option, I settled for a new heat pump. One day it worked, the next day, nothing but heat. It’s July. And now I’m sitting in my chair, writing up the divination, in an air-conditioned living room. Yay!

I can interpret a geomancy chart in several ways, but for the monthly divinations, I use an astrological House chart to look at the monthly influences. I can also read the symbols on their own but it’s fun to look at them in relation to the Houses. I like to choose the planetary spirit that signifies the main focus of the divination and I had a choice between the Sun and the Moon and this time I chose the Moon and its planetary spirit Chasmodai and placed its sigil is in the center of the chart.

The geomancy chart breaks down as follows in the twelve houses:

  1. Puer – boy, youth, vitality, impulse control, passionate or unstable energy, Fire, Mars/Aries
  2. Puer – boy, youth, vitality, impulse control, passionate or unstable energy, Fire, Mars/Aries
  3. Carcer – prison, isolation, bound, outmoded ideas or attitudes, restriction, fate, considered evil, Earth, Saturn/Capricorn
  4. Amissio – loss, quick emotional response, tactless, Earth, Venus/Taurus
  5. Laetitia – joy, health, laughter, good fortune, Water, Jupiter/Pisces
  6. Puella – girl, fickleness, harmony, pleasant, not particularly fortunate, short term happiness, Air, Venus/Libra
  7. Cauda Draconis – wholly evil, the exit, ego level of form, disaster, termination, evil, Fire, South Moon Node
  8. Puella – girl, fickleness, harmony, pleasant, not particularly fortunate, short term happiness, Air, Venus/Libra
  9. Populus – passive influence, crowd, group, neutral, reflects the the individual’s surroundings, pain and nervous anxiety, Water, Moon/Cancer
  10. Fortuna Major – inner strength, stable influence, light, life, success, good fortune, achievement, Fire, Sun/Leo
  11. Fortuna Major – inner strength, stable influence, light, life, success, good fortune, achievement, Fire, Sun/Leo
  12. Acquisitio – profit, gain, success, fortune, goal-directed, Fire, Jupiter/Sagittarius

Additional geomantic symbols include:

  • Right Witness – Fortuna Major – inner strength, stable influence, light, life, success, good fortune achievement, Fire, Sun/Leo
  • Left Witness – Conjunctio – union, interaction, joining, reunites, Earth, Mercury/Virgo
  • Judge – Acquisitio – profit, gain, success, fortune, goal-directed, Fire, Jupiter/Sagittarius

Beginning with the 1st House of life and health, Puer brings some unstable energy to the month along with potentially unstable money issues in the 2nd House of finances. Puer is influenced by Mars and its Fire energy and that combined with youth can bring some instability or issues with impulse control. However instability isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It really only indicates things are in flux and that anything can happen, including the beginning of new projects as an example. Youthful vitality can be focused or frenetic. With respect to the 2nd House of finances, however, we may want to be mindful of how we spend our money this month so that we don’t become carried away and not have enough for our basic necessities.

Israel Regardie writes in A Practical Guide to Geomantic Divination that Carcer in the 3rd House is considered evil. The 3rd House deals with siblings, communications, education, short trips, and rumors. Carcer represents a sense of restriction or isolation. It also represents beliefs that no longer serve us. With the energetic influence of Puer also present this month from the 1st House, we may be ready to move past beliefs which have kept us from progressing in a positive manner. This may involve issues with siblings involving miscommunication.

The 4th House as well as the fourth position on a geomancy chart gives us a window into what’s considered the end of the matter. Amissio appears in this House/position signifying loss of some kind concerning a father figure, property and inheritance. But the loss can also mean that something is finishing out or ending. Perhaps a difficult period with a father figure is ending or difficulty with property concerns has been resolved. Of course it could portend something more upsetting, but not all loss is a negative so we’ll see what happens over the month.

The 5th House of children, creativity, plants and crops, and love is represented by Laetitia or joy. This is why I don’t believe the loss associated with Amissio in the 4th House is necessarily problematic. July may be filled with joy and love, with friends and family so whatever has been holding us back may simply fall away as we embrace and extend love to others this month.

Puella is positioned in the 6th House of servants, health and sickness, extended family, and apparently witches. The counterpart to Puer, Puella possesses the energy of a young girl, pleasant but not always very lucky. Puella flits about from one thing to another and although considered harmonious, Puella can be at times fickle, something a witch would never tolerate in an adult but seeing potential might find amusing in a young girl. Its position in the 6th House suggest that we should be mindful of our health this month and to make choices that support health over illness. In other words, avoid too many processed foods. Hopefully, you’ve planted a garden and can take advantage of the loving abundance there.

In the 7th House of marriage and partnerships sits Cauda Draconis, considered the tail of the dragon and one of the most evil symbols in geomancy. It represents the South Node of the Moon, exits, and in the 7th House, Regardie suggests an evil or war influence so partnerships of all types may experience an ending of some kind. Again, this could be something negative such as an ending of a relationship, or it could be the ending of a particular style or mode of interaction with a partner or partners.

Puella appears again in the 8th House of death, wills, legacies, pain and stress, as well as religion and suggests harmony and happiness that is more short-term. The counterpart to Puer, the energetic influence here really isn’t any more stable and predictable but without the Mars influence, the energetic influence of Puella is more pleasant to experience. Considered a positive influence by Regardie in the 8th House, Puella’s influence during stressful times is to bring love and unity to difficult situations.

Populus is a passive influence this month in the 9th House of visions, science, art, longer journeys. Given the influence of the Moon in Cancer, this geomantic symbol tends to reflect the characteristics of the moment or of the group or crowd. So if we’re around positive people, we tend to reflect those qualities with the reverse also true. If we’re taking a vacation or other journey this month, we might want to think about the trip in advance so that we might create a happier experience.

The 10th and 11th Houses share Fortuna Major, itself reflecting inner strength and good fortune. In the 10th House of honor, mothers, career, authority, and societal position, Fortuna Major portends success in career and positive relationships with older women with authority in your life or to yourself if you are an older woman. In the 11th House of hopes and friendships, Fortuna Major brings a positive influence to those areas in our life this month as well. In fact, both houses seem to support or reinforce each other this month.

Finally, in the 12th House, we come to Acquisitio, the geomantic symbol for gain, profit and success. The 12th House, however, deals with our fears and sorrow along with restriction and hidden enemies and dangers. So we may unfortunately experience an increase of some kind in these areas. The interesting thing about geomancy is that the loss felt with Amissio could be a positive thing if it applies to a loss of pain or grief for example. It’s the same principle at work here with Acquisitio, a symbol for gain or increase. In the 12th House it may mean that we may experience more fear and sorrow this month or a restriction of some kind. Or we may discover that someone we thought was our friend is really someone far more nefarious.

Overall, the month looks positive with energy to spare, however, we’ll need to be aware of the influence of Acquisitio in the 12th House as well as the influence of Amissio or loss in the 4th House of endings. Looking at the Right and Left Witnesses Fortuna Major appears again along with Conjunctio (appearing left), with Conjunctio representing reunification and interaction with others suggesting that we may reunite with friends and family this month. Acquisitio appears again as the Judge or outcome of the divination suggesting overall success, gain, or profit. So, again, July looks positive for travel and spending time with friends and family. Relationships may be moving into a more harmonious phase which may make the month even better!

Blessings to all!
