Have We Had Enough Yet? ~ Tarot for 13/14 June 2017

Have We Had Enough Yet? ~ Tarot for 13/14 June 2017

Have we had enough of this crap yet? I drew some cards yesterday prior to the Sessions hearing but I didn’t get around to writing anything up until today, so I’ll interpret the reading as the influences surrounding that event. The overall numerology is 2 or balance, but given the reason for the hearing, it feels more like a decision between honesty and deception. Too much has happened and too many lies have been told and now it’s time for clarity, no matter what that is.

Beginning with the 4 of Pentacles, a balanced structure is represented assuring wealth and material gain. Our legacy of abundance and success is depicted by the lemniscate shapes joining each pentacle to the next, created by balanced effort. The negative side of the 4 of Pentacles arises when we hold on too tightly to our possessions or are unable to let go of what no longer serves.

The Empress is the only card from the Major Arcana that’s present in today’s reading. A beautiful card, the Wild Unknown Tarot depicts The Empress as a white tree with brilliant pink tips while a crescent moon rises in the night sky. The Empress represents the Goddess in her Mother aspect in all her elegance and grace, the essence of fertility and femininity. Both a receptive and creative presence, all life flows from the Great Mother.

Power and protection are depicted in the Mother of Wands by a snake coiled around her eggs, a crude stick ready to defend her brood. She alone stands ready to do whatever is necessary to protect her young with honor and integrity. She is determined and successful, adapting to situations as necessary to assure a successful outcome.

Three swords are bound by a red cord, blood dripping from their tips emerging from what appears like a black hole against a white background. The 3 of Swords often depicts a drama triangle or sorrow. This card, in the position of hidden influence, seems to suggest that we may be either bound by our own competing thoughts, or by the intentional distractions of others. Either way, clarity is available but somehow interfered with by self or others.

The 10 or Swords depicts ten black swords piercing and killing a bull. Ruin, betrayal, and the end of illusion are this card’s primary interpretations. We’ve gone as far as we can and a new approach is necessary. It’s the end of the road, and we’ve hit rock bottom.

Perfect love and perfect trust is an idea observed amongst witches. We perform rituals and spells that invoke perfect love and perfect trust as our foundation. With all the evidence that’s coming forward surrounding the truth of the last election, it’d be nice if we could all have that as our common goal. We need answers from the new guy and his minions, yet only dodges are forthcoming. They think they’re crafty, but as the rest of us watch and are affected by their continued deception, their time is coming to an end.

Mother of Wands is such a powerful card as it illustrates the power of women to guard our future. At least some of the senators interviewing Sessions sounded as fed up as the rest of us are with the endless dodging and weaving by people working in the current information who couldn’t answer a question in a straightforward manner to save their souls. Of course, the best one was Huckabee who believes the Attorney General is the President’s personal lawyer. He ran for President too. I guess these guys think they can write their own laws while they’re in office.

We evidently no longer share the same foundation in this country. The United States of America has become so divided that our future together is in doubt. The numerology of 2 not only indicates change but choice as well. We have a choice to make in this country to either come together and put an end to the deception surrounding our last election or we can continue as we are, at each others’ throats.

We must guard what we’ve built together and refuse to accept the continued deception by the new regime. The expressions of fealty from his cabinet the other day were sickening to watch. What’s wrong with these people? How could any of them choke out the words? This is not normal. This is not what happens in a democracy. We used to be able to depend on that, but now everything is upside down.

For whatever reason, the new guy is providing a catalyst for change. But the change he seeks will make us all the poorer while enrichening a few of his friends. They view him as someone they can use at the expense of the rest of us. We’ve gone as far as we can now. It’s time to put up or shut up and I’m not shutting up anytime soon.

What we’re experiencing is the last vestiges of patriarchy in all its ugliness and oppression. Mr. Sessions sat in his chair and refused to answer anything of substance, offering some sort of ridiculous notion that his boss might at some point claim executive privilege so he’s not saying a word and even giggled when Senator Kamala Harris was shut down during her questioning of him. Besides, to hear him tell it, how could anyone think he’d do anything treasonous to our country? Well, Mr. Sessions, you apparently lied during your confirmation hearing and now you want to blame Senator Franken for that lie. So while you think you’re a patriot, the jury is still out on that.

Blessed Be

Off With His Head Already: Valor Of A Queen ~ Tarot for 19 April 2017

Off With His Head Already: Valor Of A Queen ~ Tarot for 19 April 2017

The Queen has clearly had enough. She reclines on her throne in the clouds, her sword in her right hand, a severed head in her left. She’s exhausted, having taken matters into her own hands, from the drama and illusion surrounding her. She is the unknown presence, watching everything unfold around her, waiting for the correct time to act.

Today’s tarot reading has a decidedly feminine feel to it with the presence of The Star, the Princess of Cups, the Queen of Swords, and Lust. In the center of it all is Valour and the 7 of Wands. And it’s interesting that I read today in the news that the celebrity interviewer on the hot seat at a major news network that has paid out millions over sexual harassment claims has finally been fired. Something about hot chocolate. Men like this never learn, do they?

We’ve learned to not wait for some higher authority or power to extend its own brand of valour to us. No, if we do that, we’ll be waiting forever. Women learn over their lives to find their valour within. We watched in horror as the current president took office knowing his there is no one who respects women more than I do bullshit was just that: bullshit. Guys like him believe that all they have to do is deny it happened, change the narrative, and its all okay.

The Star begins today’s influences as the Blessed Conduit between physical and nonphysical aspects of self. Through her, we express insight and hope as we manifest our dreams. The Star pours blessings from above bridging the abyss while offering healing and optimism along with spiritual vision.

Valor, honor, and bravery are depicted by the 7 of Wands telling us to stand our ground and have the courage of our convictions. Six ornate wands align in a balanced pattern with a crude wand standing alone in the front. A sense of unique purpose is suggested by this card, with conviction and integrity as motivation. Our authentic self emerges with the 7 of Wands as we arise to face new challenges and experiences.

The spirituality of The Star continues with the Princess of Cups. Dreamy and loving, the Princess flows in emotional fulfillment, a swan above her head as a turtle peeks out from a shell held in her hands. Positive movement, improvement on all fronts, and potential are among the Princess’s influences.

Crowley retitled as well as renumbered some of the cards of the Major Arcana. Lust, in other decks, would be card 8 instead of 11 and is titled Strength. The power and compassionate strength of the goddess within hold up creation in this card of rebirth and unconditional love.

We can narrowly define who we are, allowing selfish needs to drive our choices or we can embrace the greater unified presence that we are. Our future is uncertain now, driven by people blinded by greed and ambition seeking to reset the world using their own narrow and oppressive vision.

It’s clear that the masculine has overshadowed the feminine resulting in an imbalance so alarming that we may be unable to stop its overall effects for some time to come. But women won one battle today, with the celebrity interviewer losing his job. Maybe it’s our inner valor, one step at a time, resisting, persisting, that will see us through to a more respectful and loving future.

Because at the end of the day, women are sick of this shit. And we’re not going away.

Blessed Be

Healing With Cannabis Is Worth The Risk

Healing With Cannabis Is Worth The Risk

It felt as if my body wasn’t my own. I had retained so much fluid that it felt as if I was sloshing about in boiling hot water. My thirteen-year nightmare with rheumatoid arthritis was surreal. It exploded into my life preventing any further training in Kenpo. Although my husband and I had closed our school, as a Black Belt I still trained daily, but that was over when the debilitating fatigue and pain began. I still had no idea what was happening to me but it was clear that something was terribly wrong.

I began to walk slowly, experiencing excruciating pain in my feet. I had always been a high energy person so this was concerning. By the time I saw my primary care doctor, my hands were also painfully swollen but his response was less than supportive. I would discover much later that I was experiencing all of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, but on that day, my doctor diagnosed nothing. By his estimation I was fine.

Eventually, I would be diagnosed with RA and prescribed drugs that only made my body even more toxic. Disease modifiers, anti-inflammatory drugs along with two different injectable biologics were my primary medications until I became insulin resistant and needed another prescription for that. I was on blood pressure medicine but it wasn’t enough to keep my blood pressure in check given how much fluid I was retaining. It wasn’t until my blood pressure skyrocketed after seven or so years after beginning treatment that a second medication was added, this one containing a diuretic. Along with my blood pressure normalizing, the diuretic caused so much fluid loss in the first two weeks that I woke up one morning engulfed in a flare that would go on to last slightly longer than one year. My C-Reactive Protein test was 46.5; normal, I was told, is 5 or less. The medications weren’t helping me. I was a mess and only getting worse.

My husband had been encouraging me to become a cannabis patient throughout my treatment. He had been researching the success others had using cannabis to treat all sorts of conditions and begged me to apply for my OMMP card. I resisted for some time but when the year-long flare began, I was so ill at that point that I really didn’t believe I would survive, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and apply for my card, receiving it in June 2010.

While my cannabis grew I used raw leaf in my daily smoothies. From my research, I learned that raw cannabis contains plant acids that transform into other compounds through the drying process. Plant acids are healing and patients were reporting success including raw leaf and bud in their self-treatment so I did that as well. When my harvest was done I began making concentrated medicine. I infused dried bud into coconut oil for capsules and made glycerin tincture to use in tea. At the end of December 2010 I began my own treatment plan using raw cannabis, tincture, capsules, as well as smoking for pain relief and by the middle of March of 2011, I had achieved clinical remission. Just like that.

I never told my rheumatologist at the time what I was doing. He wasn’t interested in signing off on the application so I decided it was none of his business. I began slowly discontinuing the medications I had been prescribed, waiting for symptoms to return. They didn’t. The last prescribed medication I discontinued was the biologic I was injecting twice monthly. I had reduced that to once a month with no return of symptoms. Since I’m also a herbalist, I was supporting my remission with herbal tinctures I formulated, so I felt comfortable discontinuing the biologic in September 2015. To date, I’ve had no return of symptoms and the only change I’ve made with my cannabis medicine along the way was adding actual cannabis oil to the mix. That’s the thick, sludgy oil that’s so helpful with cancer, Crohn’s and other issues. I use a small amount now to keep things in check.

I was expected to buy into their program and not think for myself. But if I had continued along that path, I believe I wouldn’t be writing this now. And now we have a president and an attorney general who seem to want to put my life and the lives of other patients at risk again by suggesting that cannabis is dangerous. The new attorney general apparently believes that it’s almost as bad as heroin addiction which is ludicrous.

The entire west coast has legalized recreational cannabis and over half the states have legalized medical. The tax revenue alone has opened the floodgates to legalization across the country. Seniors opting to medicate with cannabis are discovering that they can reduce the number of prescriptions they’re taking, a concern of Big Pharma I’m sure. But that’s too bad considering what this new regime plans to do to everyone’s healthcare. We must have options when they seek to give us none.

I know first hand how well cannabis replaces any number of prescribed medications. If the destructive health insurance changes the Republicans are insisting upon are voted into law, seniors will have even greater difficulty purchasing their medications. If cannabis can replace those medications then they need safe access to that without fear of arrest.

Veterans, my husband included, need safe access as well to help relieve the crippling effects of PTSD from which so many suffer. Because if the Republicans have their way and privatize veteran’s health care, safe access to cannabis will become more important than ever. These men and women served us honorably and with dignity. Their return home should reflect the same commitment and respect they gave our country. The last thing any of them needs is to face uncertainty over their healthcare concerns.

To say the government lied about the safety of cannabis is an understatement. Lives have been ruined through incarceration and for what exactly? To preserve a lie told long ago? How many people would be alive and well today if they had cannabis as a treatment option? Ideally, raw cannabis should be considered as a dietary staple, available for purchase in any produce department. I’m convinced that had my mother had access to cannabis oil, she might still be alive instead of dying at sixty-five from COPD and congestive heart failure. Children who have survived cancer using cannabis oil go on to live healthy lives. A boy in Colorado with Crohn’s has become a vocal advocate for healing with cannabis and is living a happy and healthy life. Families move across the country to live in states with medical cannabis when it’s the only thing that will save their child.

Cannabis is safe to use medicinally or for recreation. Research from around the world supports this truth. CNN did a three-part investigative series where Sanjay Gupta discovered the truth about the efficacy of cannabis in treating so many conditions. But Congress, the DEA, and the new attorney general have other ideas. Truth matters not to these people, but the stakes are too high to give up now. Too many of us have had our lives saved by this blessed plant and we’re not going away anytime soon. We’ll stand up to the nonsense because as we all know, healing with cannabis is definitely worth the risk.

So give it your best shot, Mr. Sessions. A veritable cannabis army awaits, many of us silver-haired and not done living yet.

Power Over Respect ~ Tarot for 5 March 2017

Power Over Respect ~ Tarot for 5 March 2017

Power over respect seems to be the theme of the so-called new guy. We’ve always experienced that imbalance to some degree in our country, but what’s happening now is far more extreme than anything I’ve seen before. Not that I’ve seen everything, but what’s going on now seem so unnecessary, as if it’s a distraction from other more nefarious agendas at work. If he keeps us upset about one thing, then we might miss the really big stuff he’s pulling. It’s the bait and switch approach to governing. Or it’s the ignore the man behind the curtain approach. Either way, we can all agree that huge changes are quite possibly in store unless some truth is revealed that stops him in his tracks.

I confess that I rarely know what spread I’m going to use when I begin drawing cards. As I shuffled my Thoth deck I really didn’t have a question or focus so I decided to let the cards tell me what I needed to know. Right away I drew three cards from the Major Arcana, The Universe, The Emperor, and The Chariot. Their overall numerology is 32 reducing from there to 5 which can indicate change or an instinctual/material focus. Given their archetypal influence, powerful change is occurring.

From there I added two more cards, the Prince of Disks for hidden or underlying influences and the 2 of Cups as the final focus or outcome. Looking ahead, it’s nice to see that Love is the outcome. Adding the numerology of the 2 to the numerology of the Majors we arrive at an overall numerology of 7, or divinity and perfection. Seven is the number for magick and intuition and can also represent the shadow side of self.

Beginning with the final card in the Major Arcana, The Universe, we see the Triple Goddess in the center of a vortex assisting all in their return to the Unified Self. She has manifested the world around her drawing strength from the All Seeing Eye above. However, it’s not just the end of a cycle that this card signifies but also the beginning of something new. The head of the snake points downward as it emerges from the Eye’s golden rays, coiled in rebirth and regenesis providing support for the Goddess during the awakening and ascension process.

As the Goddess guides all toward ascension, she prepares as well for the new universe to come. Awakening and enlightenment give way to love and understanding transforming and raising the vibrational frequency of all.

The Emperor sits on his throne in all his fiery presence, two rams looking inquisitively over each shoulder. He holds a dark round globe in one hand and a ram’s head scepter in the other. Interestingly, he doesn’t look forward or to the right but to the left, suggesting a focus on past concerns.

One interpretation is that he’s gazing at his Empress but we don’t really know for sure. If so does that mean he finds his strength in another instead of within himself? His legs are crossed in the same manner as the Hanged Man suggesting a triple aspected focus which would align with The Empress as the third card of the Major Arcana. Perhaps his fiery nature is in need of balance that only the Empress can provide.

Although he is pragmatic and structured and capable of great compassion and reason, when ill-dignified The Emperor can be arrogant and out of control, his authority either protecting or oppressing others. The choice is his.

Movement, mastery, and receptivity are signified by The Chariot. The seventh card of the Major Arcana, this card asks us to know when to take control of the reins and when to surrender that control to others. It can also indicate alignment in Source Presence. The Knight is well-prepared for whatever is coming, dressed in gold armor, a round piece of amethyst his shield, four sphinx protecting him on his journey.

The Chariot represents balance and control over the material aspects of Self. When it presents in a reading we’re to push past obstacles irrespective of our feelings knowing that we have the inner resolve to succeed.

Prince of Disks
        Prince of Disks

In the unknown or hidden influence position sits the Prince of Disks on his own chariot pulled by a bull. He holds the world in his left hand, a staff in the other, ready for new adventures and experiences. Integrity and trustworthiness are the qualities of this card along with a sense of responsibility to others. He is practical and realistic and when this card appears, things really are moving along well.

Our answer, of course, is found in the 2 of Cups, or Love as it’s titled. A beautiful card depicting Venus in Cancer, the waters of emotional fulfillment flow forth from a lotus blossom upon two entwined pinkish dolphins with golden fins. From there while a small amount of water flows into the lower lotus blossom from the dolphin’s mouths, the majority continues on, filling the two golden chalices below to overflowing. Love is the way. Love is the answer.

I’ve written the beginning of the interpretation section several times because it was feeling somewhat redundant. But then I let myself off the hook a bit and realized that the world is in chaos and it makes sense that the cards would reflect that. The reading gives us a glimpse of who we are and what the answer is to the ridiculous place we now find ourselves.

In The Universe, we see the cycle of birth, return, and renewal. It’s an example of the awakened Unified Self. And it’s not something we have to wait until we die to experience because it’s our true reality. During this time of ascension, many are experiencing this elevated resonance of awakening to their divine Self, experiencing their essential oneness with all.

The catalytic colors alone of The Emperor card tell us that something big is happening particularly with The Emperor’s refusal to look directly at us or to the right in anticipation of the future. His refusal to look us in the eye denotes deception. The placement of the card reinforces this giving the impression that he’s looking at a process he cannot control, preferring distraction over responsibility. A sort of look over there and not at me approach.

The Chariot reminds us that working with others typically brings a better outcome than going it alone produces, something that seems to elude The Emperor. His life as a Prince was too privileged resulting in a lack of compassion and responsibility for others. His lack of integrity and honor prevent him from seeing the bigger picture which is detrimental to the country he pretends to govern, all while spending every weekend on the golf course.

It’s easy for the rich and powerful to forget that most people don’t share their experience. Ours is a different one. One that now is a risk because of an ill-dignified Emperor with no clothes. However, we will not find our solution when we’re at odds with each other. It must be found by coming together in a unified presence, making ourselves heard whether he wants to hear us or not.

We ALL matter that much.

At some point, we’re going to all have to agree that the so-called new guy lied to his supporters. They put their faith in a guy who spoke to their concerns in a manner that resonated. It is what it is. Now we have to move forward in love and unity and stand firm in demanding the truth. We deserve at least that much and in truth, so much more.

Enlightenment is a funny thing. Sometimes it happens when we’re given the gift of struggle by someone so awful that we finally learn that the only way forward is together. Whatever all of this was will come out in the end and we’ll know how this lunatic won the election. But until then, we must keep the pressure on so that the truth comes out sooner than later because Goddess knows we can’t afford the golf course trips. And would you please tell that ridiculous blonde lady to get her fucking feet off of the furniture? It’s the fucking Oval Office. Have some respect.

Blessings!

The Perilous Silencing of Women

The Perilous Silencing of Women

The silencing of women has begun in earnest on the floor of the Senate.

Be seen and not heard. That’s what I was told by my parents while growing up. I was precocious in their view and my truthful comments weren’t welcome. An empath, my awareness made them uncomfortable. Sorta like the republicans in the Senate last night who prevented Elizabeth Warren from reading a letter from Coretta Scott King regarding Jeff Session’s suitability to become a judge. In this case, the position is the Attorney General, and Session’s record of racism precludes him from such a position. At least in the minds of sensible people.

When McConnell shut Senator Warren down from reading Mrs. King’s letter, she went outside the chamber and read it before a camera just outside the door. Two additional male Senators continued to read Mrs. King’s letter concerning Sessions, Jeff Merkley one of them. He’s one of my Senators and I couldn’t be happier that he did so. Sessions will be a nightmare for justice in this country and as a cannabis patient, his past attitudes have me concerned.

The truth seems to be a rare commodity in this new administration. It’s not a new thing for republicans in Congress to have trouble with the truth, but the so-called new guy seems to have unleashed a new level of lies. And it doesn’t seem to matter how many facts are presented, they willfully ignore them moving full steam ahead to gut established and needed programs and laws that actually help people.

Women marched the day after the inauguration and will continue to do so while this fool is in office. His immigration order has spawned not only judicial decisions against him but an outpouring of support for immigrants arriving at airports around the country. Sanctuary cities are popping up as well in defiance of the threats of no funding from the so-called new guy. Or is the real president the white nationalist at his side who managed to get his boss to sign off on an executive order placing him on the National Security Council supposedly after not even reading it first. Or at least that’s what he now says happened. But with the problem he has with the truth, how can we really ever know?

Silencing Senator Warren will not end well for these men. Silencing women will never work in the end. We’ll wait, observe, and plan. And then we’ll act. It’s what we do. We’re so much better than men at this. You see, women have had to work around and in spite of men all of our lives. So this is nothing.

Women have a wonderful way of seeing the larger picture. We have to. It’s how we make ends meet on the crappy wages we earn. It’s how we put food on the table and have clothes for our children when there isn’t enough. We go without so everyone else has an equal chance at happiness.

It’s what we do.

Somehow men became confused as to their role in life. It was never to lord over anyone but to live in equality with all. We can debate the origins of this destructive thinking, but at this point, the real issue is the ultimate effect on the security of our people. Removing a law that prevents health insurance companies from overcharging or not covering health issues is cruel. They believe that healthcare isn’t a right in this country. Survival of the fittest when the very people who need it the most don’t make a living wage enabling them to become anything close to the fittest because it takes money to be healthy in this country.

But lest we think it’s only republican men who are the problem, it’s women as well. Take the new Education Secretary. The outcry over this woman was massive, yet she was still confirmed. Time will tell how much of our public school system she’ll be able to defund. But she’s clear on what it takes to defend children from grizzly bears.

And just to be clear, you don’t have to be religious to homeschool. It can be a wonderful experience for you and your children. You can use an unschooling approach and let your children follow their own interests. I was more of a facilitator than a teacher when our boys finished their education at home. Now they’re college graduates and are working in their chosen fields. Homeschooling is an option that works. Kids naturally want to learn and before you know it, they’ll be devising their own curriculum. Mine intended to go to college so some of their curricula centered on that end. And I have to say that it was the best thing ever and to have that time with my boys was priceless.

When I both trained in and later taught karate, it always struck me how female students in our karate school had such a quiet intensity about them. I could see it in their eyes in the dojo during class. They were already fighting a perception by some of the male students in class who struggled with their own sexist views of women. Never mind they could defend themselves against any guy there, but it was hard for some of the younger guys when a young girl won a sparring match against one of them.

Although I was the only woman in the school to earn a Black Belt, I watched other women from other schools as they advanced in rank, their quiet strength and resolve pushing them on. The survival of the species is contained within us. Women are the defenders of all. We clean up the messes brought about by narrow-minded thinking. We press on irrespective of the struggle. And we will not be silenced by misogynistic, racist, and sexist people, men and women alike, who wish to further the agenda of a few at the expense of the rest.

What Senator Warren experienced last evening is disgraceful and beneath the dignity of the Senate. McConnell should be censured for his actions if not removed entirely as Senate Majority Leader. And it goes without saying that Jeff Sessions should never have the chance to be our Attorney General.

It may be morning in the so-called new guy’s America. But we’re still here.

Blessings to all as we unite as one family, secure in the knowing that love will always trump hate.

The Crone: Transformational Power Within

You don’t look like a Crone, a friend on social media said. I smiled, knowing he missed the point entirely. As the Goddess has three aspects, so does a woman. We begin as a Maiden, emerging into the Mother phase either in our early twenties or when we have a child if sooner. When a woman enters menopause, she’s considered a Crone. Of course these are all arbitrary, because even though at fifty-nine I’m the right age, I’m fairly certain I was born a Crone. I think most empaths and witches probably are. Or at least it’s a strong energy that’s felt within.

But deviations aside, a woman emerging into her Crone phase is a beautiful sight to behold. We’ve lived varied lives, some electing to have children, some choosing their profession as their manifestation. Regardless of choice, a woman as Mother gives birth to new ideas and new possibilities, creating a lasting legacy for herself, her family, and friends.

And when the Crone taps us on the shoulder, we’re ready to feel and express her wisdom and loving presence. We’ve lived through much by this time in our lives, experiencing all that life has to offer. We’ve dried tears and raised hopes, stood firm when necessary and showed compassion for no reason at all. We understand what’s been and what’s to come. And we know when to step out of the way, to step aside, and let things unfold as they will.

The Crone knows all too well that experience is our best guide. It’s difficult to watch as things fall apart, knowing the pain it will cause, but knowing as well that sometimes it takes such things to make us pay attention to the obvious.

Hagalaz, considered the witch rune, provides a fixed structure allowing destruction in preparation for positive change. Also a Norn rune representing Urdh and the past, essentially Hagalaz represents the witch as Crone. The Crone has watched the continuous cycle of beginnings and endings, of birth and death, giving way to a rebirth of something better. She has the wisdom to let things unfold, watching as choices are made that further nothing but chaos and destruction, secure in her knowing that truth will remain when there’s nothing left.

Elders aren’t cherished in our society. We leave them wanting for much as we go about our lives, forgetting their counsel, ignoring their wisdom. The Crone witch was tortured and burned for not only her healing skills but for her wise counsel as well, particularly when truth threatened the mighty King.

As every Crone knows, sometimes our words are all we have. Oh, we’ll gladly step aside for you. We’ll step aside and watch as you create your havoc, staying ever ready to act when necessary. But the Crone chooses her battles wisely, saving her energy and commitment for just the right moment, when it will have the greatest effect.

You’ll never see the Crone coming because you pay no attention to us anymore. You’ve disregarded and dismissed our presence, ridiculed us into silence, never realizing you fuel our purpose even more. Underestimate the Crone at your own peril. She’s the Goddess personified. She’s the reason wisdom and compassion won at Standing Rock, and she’ll be the reason we survive.

Because in the end, women will lead us. There is no choice now. The schism that has happened will not be sustainable, it’s purpose not to unify but to further oppress. Crone wisdom will survive all of this and will lead us back into the balance we so desperately seek.

Women have been cleaning up messes created by men since the dawn of time. Sadly, these are the same men we give birth to. Maybe they get too big for their britches as my mother used to say. They’re on a roll and can’t face the consequences of their actions.

Maybe she’s right. Maybe what we’re witnessing is the last vestiges of patriarchy in all it’s ugliness. On display now for the whole world to witness, it can no longer be ignored.

Because at some point, we will all have had enough.

This Crone certainly has.

~ Blessings to all!

The Power of a Queen

The Power of the Queens

A witch is drawn to places of power whether it be the mountains, the desert, or the ocean. We’re a curious bunch, and we notice all sorts of things when wandering about. One of the things we notice are rocks, particularly if they have holes in them. Every witch loves hag, or holey, stones. A divination tool, the witch looks through the hole to divine the future. A witch should never purchase a hag stone, instead we’re to find them on our wanderings. I suppose they can be a gift from someone, but it’s better for a witch to find her own. I found a Crone-load of hag stones at the Oregon coast last year while there for our oldest son’s wedding. I use them during ritual or if I need some Crone energy to influence a magickal working of some kind. Below the cards are two of the hag stones I found at the coast. In all of my life, I’ve never found one. But sometimes Goddess provides a windfall because that day, my gathering bag was full.

The Princess of Disks, the 4 of Disks, and the Queen of Swords from the Thoth deck are the cards for today’s reading. Elemental Earth energies dominate the reading with two cards from the suit of Disks. Pentacles in other decks, Disks suggest practical matters may be of concern to us today. The Queen of Swords, on the other hand, appears not to care about such things, or does she? The suit of Swords reflects Elemental Air and our intellectual presence in the world. Absent from the reading are Cups and Wands.

The numerology is easy because Court cards aren’t numbered, so the numerology of today’s reading is four, or Gaia energy. Synchronous with the energies of Elemental Earth, issues of foundation or structure are reinforced by the numerology of the cards.

Beginning with the Princess of Disks, we see a young woman whose focus is placed on practical matters. She stands silently, in deep concentration, her staff points downward to physical form. She is practical, generous, and reliable. The Princess is a student, her careful study transforming her future.

The 4 of Disks depicts the fortress of power, suggesting a strong foundation or structure. The four elements and quarters are represented in the scene, the strength of Elemental Guardians present. The 4 of Disks suggests wealth that’s building toward material or financial success.

And now for my favorite card, the Queen of Swords. She sits on her throne, reclined a bit, surrounded by clouds, her sword in her right hand, a head in her left. Clearly, she takes no prisoners, her effect final. The Queen cuts through illusion getting to the truth of the matter, suffering no fools in her path. She is intelligent and self-reliant, assertive yet graceful. Extraordinarily perceptive, the Queen of Swords prefers the solitary path, relying on her intuition as guide.

When Court cards appear in a reading, they can indicate either the individual on the card or their traits. An initial look at the cards really didn’t give me a feel for their flow. But as I began describing each one, it became clear to me what was going on here. Instead of seeing both Court cards in the same way, I decided to look at the traits of the Princess of Disks, and alternately, the Queen of Swords as an individual. I suppose we could see the Princess as the Queen when she was younger, but I think we’d arrive at the same place anyway.

There’s power in building the foundation for our lives. We seek out education in all forms, determined to learn all that we can, recognizing that the time spent in diligent, focused study will result in future success. We’ve learned from the Princess that transformation is possible with careful management of our resources.

But at the end of the day, the Queen reflects on wisdom gained over a lifetime lived. She’s paid her dues. The Queen uses her sword, balancing intellect with intuition to cut through illusion, finding the dispassionate solution. She lets go of what no longer serves, in this case, a severed head, suggesting it may be her own thoughts that she casts to the universe.

Typical Crone. Over time, we learn to choose our battles, eventually learning to ignore just about everything. In the clouds, she sits apart from the physical aspect of Self, aligning with her Source Presence as she releases her hold on the past. Her foundation is strong, the power of the Queen felt by all.

As women, we have far more power than we may realize. A lifetime of oppression is the cause, but all along, we’ve been building our strong foundation, our fortress. There is no one more determined than a woman. No one. We survive as we always have, with grace and dignity. And it’s time that we embraced that inner strength and resolve that has sustained us throughout our lives.

We’re worth far more than some in our country would suggest. And our time has come.

Patriarchy Isn’t Going Away Quietly

I watched part of the Commander-in-Chief forum last night, turning it off after Secretary Clinton was finished. I couldn’t watch the poor excuse for an interviewer give the next guy the pass he didn’t seem interested in giving Hillary. Even with all of her qualifications, he couldn’t be respectful enough to let her finish a thought. But then that’s how it is with powerful women. There are still men who apparently are so intimidated that they find any way that they can to make us look less than we are. Those watching last night witnessed just such a man. Well, two of them.

We’ve all lived under patriarchy for so long that it doesn’t occur to some that there can be anything else. But it’s never felt right to treat women as less than when we’ve never been anything like that. We’ve fought in wars, we take care of our families, we run companies, but we’re somehow less than our male counterparts. And now some of the more loony ones are fixated on a cough that Secretary Clinton had. A cough. President Bush choked on a pretzel and while there were jokes made about it, most people were just concerned that he was okay. These other people sound like complete nutjobs.

The other candidate has no ideas other than those which will derail our country further. Secretary Clinton, on the other hand, has all sorts of plans to make our country better, but media outlets are more interested in covering the crazy guy than listening to what she has to say. It’s probably why she doesn’t talk to them much. She’d rather talk to voters. Oh, the horror of it all.

She doesn’t smile; she doesn’t look presidential. Give me a break. This woman looks more presidential than even her husband did. Besides, it’s about governing, not about her own celebrity. Next they’ll be saying she’s not woman enough for the job. But then maybe that’s what the smile comments are about.

When we make it about the visual, we lose substance. An election is not a television show, irrespective of the fact that one of the candidates is akin to a game show host. I want to know how a candidate is going to govern and if he or she understands what people in our country deal with on a daily basis, regardless of who they are. I want to know that he or she understands the rest of world and our place in it. I want to know that he or she has a firm grasp on the issues we all face in this world and that wisdom will prevail over impulsive reaction.

When my parents were divorced, I remember my mom was up for a promotion to department head at the grocery store where she worked. I was in college and we talked about the fact that she might be able to be an Assistant Store Manager, but she would never be in charge of the whole place. That was a job reserved for men because they had families to take care of. My mother was now a single parent with a deaf son and a daughter in college, but apparently a man’s responsibilities were greater than my mother’s.

It was bullshit then and it’s bullshit now. But that’s how the world was in the 70’s. For all the work feminism was doing, we hadn’t come very far, and listening to the crap that comes from men who should know better about this election, it tells me that we have so much more work to do. But it’s as disgusting now as it was then.

People wonder why so many older women support Hillary. Well, it’s because we’ve experienced patriarchy in all its ugliness. It’s not because she’s a woman, but because she’s qualified. Because if she wasn’t, none of us would be supporting her.

Here’s the thing. Women are intelligent, responsible people. We work hard, and we want an equal place at the table. And we shouldn’t have to ask for it or point it out. We THINK. We REASON. And we VOTE. And in November each one of us will make the best decision we can when we cast our vote.

But is it time for a woman in the Oval Office? Yes. And the fussy men out there who can’t seem to stop sticking both feet in their mouths need to sit down, shut up, and learn a thing or two.

Women aren’t the enemy. We just want to be treated with respect and dignity. And we want to be paid the same as our male counterparts. We don’t want to be defined by whether or not we smile enough. And just so men know, saying stuff like this makes you look so pathetic and small. Women are tired of being judged, period. Because it’s only there to keep women in a place defined by men who want control instead of fairness, preserving patriarchy instead of a more balanced engagement.

Any time change happens, those that want to preserve the status quo will spend their efforts on derailing that change. But a tipping point has been reached, and patriarchy is giving way to a more balanced, reasoned approach to how we relate to each other. We have to start somewhere. Maybe we begin by electing Hillary Clinton our first woman President.

A note about the picture at the top of the white cosmos. This little plant is a volunteer, began with one flower, and has been growing in my driveway all summer. Its beauty and tenacity speaks to the strength of a woman who stands in her own power in spite of any obstacles in her path. As women, like this flower, we’ve persevered in our becoming. And there’s no stopping us now.

A Little Honesty Would Have Been Nice

Apparently the federal government is not yet ready to remove cannabis from the Federal Drug Register. NORML is reporting that the Feds aren’t going to reschedule cannabis after all. Never mind that a profit motive put it there, because it was never about truth. I guess they’re going to allow universities to “study” it now. As if that’s never happened in kitchens across this country, or in Israel and other countries around the world. Evidently Americans aren’t capable of using cannabis responsibly, whatever that means. At least not without years and years of “acceptable” research.

You’d think cannabis would be illegal because it’s dangerous and addictive. But all the hysteria surrounding cannabis’s so-called addictive nature was founded on a lie. Cannabis isn’t addictive, nor is it dangerous. It is, however, the source of healing for all sorts of people, myself included.

Cannabis is an effective treatment for autoimmune disorders (rheumatoid arthritis in my case), epilepsy, diabetes, pain, PTSD, cancer, and any number of other conditions that arise when our endocannabinoid systems have nothing to interact with. Our receptors need the cannabinoids found in cannabis so that our bodies can handle the stresses of daily life that all too often result in chronic illness. When the cannabinoid receptors are firing properly our bodies are healthy, when they’re not, illness results. So it would seem the issue is a simple one:

The government has lost its mind and still cannot find it.

It’s embarrassing, really, to think that we have some of the most intelligent people in the world working for our government yet the truth is still not important in the final analysis. Instead people are still arrested for a plant that heals. But then there’s no money in health, only chronic illness, because truth is irrelevant when profits are at stake. I mean, if we actually stopped locking people up for cannabis, we’d certainly see a reduction in the prison population, a job-killer for sure, so we can’t have that. What on earth would all those private prisons do without potheads taking up space?

CNN did an excellent three-part documentary series called Weed with Sanjay Gupta, but I guess a brain surgeon’s investigation isn’t enough to sway the DEA. Various states have legalized the recreational use of cannabis, my state included, and others have legalized medical cannabis use. I think half the country or better has done one or both. Every poll I hear about says that the majority of Americans believe cannabis should be legal, so how is it that the DEA can override respected scientists and the majority of citizens who want legal cannabis? They look like fools.

If alcohol and cigarettes are legal in this country, then cannabis should be as well. This notion of legalization with extensive restrictions isn’t legalization. It’s still control. Alcohol isn’t restricted, nor are cigarettes, and cannabis should be no different. If it’s legal, it’s legal. And in the case of cannabis, it’s safe to use unlike alcohol and cigarettes.

Aren’t we tired of crap that makes no sense? I sure am. And I’m pretty certain that everyone sitting in a jail cell for cannabis is as well. All the lives ruined by unnecessary prosecution and prison sentences, and for what exactly? Increased profits for Big Pharma? Asset-forfeiture? All over a little weed?

Cannabis makes us feel better. It heals not just our bodies but our emotions and our minds. There’s nothing like it and to think our government would rather lie about this plant than treat the American people with respect and dignity by telling us the truth is shameful and appalling.

Enough is enough. Come clean. Do the right thing by all of us. The American people will begin to heal and we’ll do that on our terms, not defined by and built upon a lie. Chronic illness will give way to actual health. I know because I healed with cannabis and I’m healthier now at 58 than I’ve ever been in my life. And that can happen for others.

All we need is a little honesty, a little truth, and then for our government to step out of our way.

The Absence of Integrity

empath and empathy

There’s little else that matters to me than my integrity. While not an uncommon trait for a witch, it’s something that I believe in above anything else. It matters that I’m taken seriously because I don’t lie. An empath as well, empaths cannot tolerate dishonesty in others any more than we can tolerate it in ourselves. So I get a double dose of it I guess.

Deception from others is exhausting. An empath will typically feel in to figure out what’s actually going on. A witch will try to do something about it. No one likes being sold a bill of goods. We want to know exactly what’s going on at any given moment and most of us don’t deal well with dishonesty. And when we figure out what’s happening, we may experience a variety of emotions including betrayal, embarrassment, and anger. No one likes to feel they were lied to or taken advantage of in any way.

Lies matter in the broader scheme of things. If someone lies to gain anything at all, they risk fraud charges. If it happens in relationships, then they risk irreparable damage to those relationships. Everyone else is charged with outing the liar and sometimes that’s not received well, because liars often have supporters who foolishly become part of their game.

The absence of integrity leads people in directions that might benefit them for a time, but eventually it all comes crashing in on them. Lies create more lies and pull others in when they have no idea what’s happening. Before long, the lies are so complicated that it can be difficult to see how they’ve progressed, but typically is has to do with gain of some kind.

The gain involved may be financial in nature, but power and control are at the root of all of it, whether money is involved or it’s not. This may seem obvious, but many people are so passive aggressive that their deception is on a visceral or foundational level for them, and even they might not understand the ramifications of their actions. It never occurs to them that what they want is more about them than what it is they’re focused on and they resist any attempt at course correction.

When you seek to bring truth to a situation, you must be prepared for push back because it will happen. But integrity matters and the fact that so many find that challenging these days accounts for much of the oppressive nonsense we see and experience. We see it in the political arena as well as in our own personal lives as more lies are told to protect the lies that came before. It’s a never ending struggle with people who can’t seem to tell the truth.

Trust matters. Without integrity, trust doesn’t even enter the equation for me. So if someone lies to me, there had better be an explanation that is both understandable and believable. In other words, there had better be some really good extenuating circumstances before I’ll ever consider trusting that person again. Few have those kinds of explanations. Mostly they don’t respond at all, laying low, waiting for someone to rescue them from the situations they create.

They’re cowards, those who act without integrity. They prefer their will above all others and their inability to work collectively with others is sadly impaired. The challenges for the rest of us in dealing with them are many. Keeping these folks from doing too much damage is the least of it. Viewing them as Source Presence and extending them compassion actually should be the easiest thing we can do, but often our wounding gets in the way of that.

The absence of integrity casts a pall over everything. At some point, each of us not only needs to be able to trust, but to be trustworthy. We all matter equally. And we’re all one. So let’s turn a page and begin anew in dignity, integrity, and honor.

Integrity matters that much.

Blessed Be.
