I’m drawn to various astrological aspects because I’m interested in how planetary bodies interact and relate to each other. The Hele aspect is interesting because it involves two trines, one square, and one semi-sextile, and I love a good outlier, in this case, the square aspect.

Trine aspects involve planetary bodies that are 120 degrees apart and have an easy or harmonious relationship. In other words, their energies are beneficial to each other.

Squares are 90 degrees apart and suggest obstacles or challenges between the planetary energies.

Finally, the semi-sextile aspect is 30 degrees apart (sextiles are 60) and describes opportunities that are potentially beneficial in nature although not as much as a sextile pattern would indicate.

There are two such Hele patterns in the chart right now, one involving Vesta and the other Uranus. In both, Mercury and the South Node are in a semi-sextile relationship while Mercury trines the Moon.

What changes is when the Hele pattern involves either Uranus or Vesta because it’s there that the Moon squares one or the other and the South Node does the same with a trine aspect. Since Uranus and Vesta are the outliers overall, I’ll use each one as the focal point of the Hele aspect pattern.

Hele Aspect Pattern with Uranus

  • MOON SQUARE URANUS  Orb 4°03′ Separating
    • Moon (adaptability, emotions, unconscious self, nurturing self/others) – 7th House (partnerships)/Leo (creative, extroverted, lively, proud, excessive)
    • Uranus (individuality, uniqueness, inspiring, creative) – 4th House (foundation, endings)/Taurus (cautious, determined, loving)
  • MERCURY TRINE THE MOON  Orb 2°14′ Applying
    • Mercury (communication, reason, logic) – 12th House (Karma, things hidden)/Sagittarius (direct, leader, adventure, travel, tactless)
    • Moon (adaptability, emotions, unconscious self, nurturing self/others) – 7th House (partnerships)/Leo (creative, extroverted, lively, proud, excessive)
  • MERCURY SEMI-SEXTILE THE S NODE Orb 0°08′ Separating
    • Mercury (communication, reason, logic) – 12th House (Karma, things hidden)/Sagittarius (direct, leader, adventure, travel, tactless)
    • South Node – 1st House (self, individuality, physical appearance, self-esteem)/Capricorn (disciplined, responsible, ambitious, loner)
  • S NODE TRINE URANUS  Orb 6°09′ Applying
    • South Node – 1st House (self, individuality, physical appearance, self-esteem)/Capricorn (disciplined, responsible, ambitious, loner)
    • Uranus – Uranus (individuality, uniqueness, inspiring, creative) – 4th House (foundation, endings)/Taurus (cautious, determined, loving)

With the Moon’s square with Uranus, it appears that we may experience a stubborn desire to stand out from others which might cause some stress, the stubborn aspect likely reinforced by the Moon in Leo and the 7th House of partnerships.

A trine between Mercury and the Moon suggests we’re easily able to communicate our thoughts and feelings with others. Problems may occur, however, if we use that ability to manipulate if others aren’t as eager to open up fully.

Mercury semi-sextile the South Node indicates that we understand our past and use that understanding to inform the present while a trine between the South Node and Uranus suggests a life filled with adventure and the space to express our individuality.

But the pivotal point in the Hele pattern, aside from the Uranus focus, is that the semi-sextile between Mercury and the South Node also reinforces the need for authenticity in our relationships with others. Without that, we’re not interested in pursuing anything at that point and should we express our need to stand out it may be perceived by others as manipulative or intrusive.

Hele Aspect Pattern with Vesta

  • MOON SQUARE VESTA  Orb 5°51′ Applying
    • Moon (adaptability, emotions, unconscious self, nurturing self/others) – 7th House (partnerships)/Leo (creative, extroverted, lively, proud, excessive)
    • Vesta (Goddess of Hearth and Family associated with tradition, routine and sacred ritual. She describes our sacred investment into self and others involving our work and sense of well-being; can be austere and a martyr)
  • MERCURY TRINE THE MOON  Orb 2°14′ Applying
    • Mercury (communication, reason, logic) – 12th House (Karma, things hidden)/Sagittarius (direct, leader, adventure, travel, tactless)
    • Moon (adaptability, emotions, unconscious self, nurturing self/others) – 7th House (partnerships)/Leo (creative, extroverted, lively, proud, excessive)
  • MERCURY SEMI-SEXTILE THE S NODE Orb 0°08′ Separating
    • Mercury (communication, reason, logic) – 12th House (Karma, things hidden)/Sagittarius (direct, leader, adventure, travel, tactless)
    • South Node – 1st House (self, individuality, physical appearance, self-esteem)/Capricorn (disciplined, responsible, ambitious, loner)
  • S NODE TRINE VESTA  Orb 3°45′ Applying
    • South Node – 1st House (self, individuality, physical appearance, self-esteem)/Capricorn (disciplined, responsible, ambitious, loner)
    • Vesta (Goddess of Hearth and Family associated with tradition, routine and sacred ritual. She describes our sacred investment into self and others involving our work and sense of well-being; can be austere and a martyr)

Replacing Uranus in the Hele pattern, Vesta is concerned with the sacred within our lives and in our interactions with others. She influences rituals of well-being, routine, and work, and when placed in the Hele aspect, instead of Uranus’s need to stand out, Vesta takes a more foundational approach.

It’s with the Moon square Vesta that we’re alerted to an imbalance between a need for routine and how we feel about such. It could be suggesting that we’re not finding our work to be emotionally fulfilling and we may need to offset that experience with rituals focusing on self-nurturance and balance.

Mercury trine the Moon again, as with the Uranus/Hele pattern, tells us that conversations flow smoothly and the sextile with the South Node indicates that we understand our past and use that understanding to inform the present. So we should benefit well from Vesta’s alignment with sacred tradition and routine.

The trine between the South Node and Vesta also reinforces the understanding expressed by Mercury sextile the South Node by suggesting we’ve balanced any karma that might impact our interactions and choices.

The semi-sextile between Mercury and the South Node again in this Vesta/Hele pattern reinforces the need for authenticity in our relationships with others. However, instead of trust issues that may result with Uranus, this aspect appears to be pointing to expression of the sacred within our relationships and routine. That expression may impact how we feel about both and describes the need again to find activities that provide alignment and emotional healing or balance.

Final Thoughts

For today’s Hele aspect, looking at how it expresses from the perspective of two planetary bodies illustrates the effect of different paths taken. Uranus wants to shine and the Hele provides the pathway for that, while Vesta reminds us of who we are and where we’ve been and the impact of that on the present moment. There, Vesta suggests that when situations aren’t ideal, we should rely on sacred rituals such as meditation or journeying to find solace and balance.

Until next time…
