Tarot Card of the Week ~ 7 of Swords

The 7 of Swords is an interesting card. With the double line of demarcation visible down by the man’s feet, there’s a sense of that was then, and this is now about the card. He’s clearly stealing five of the seven swords, which as an author my immediate thought is “theft of intellectual property”. But given the rest of the scene, there’s something else in play here.

The King has set up his ornate tents either as a respite from the battle or to get ready for a new one. His men are visible on the lower left side of the card, perhaps going over battle plans.

It appears as if the thief might have been inside the tents working as a servant/spy. Swords align with Elemental Air, or intellect, strategy, communication, etc. So, could he be from the village that is about to be plundered? Is he stealing the King’s battle plans to level the playing field in order that the village can defend itself from a well-prepared army?

The number 7 suggests observation and balance as well as making careful plans. Are the scales tipping in favor of the village with the actions of the man? It would seem so and it suggests that if you’re having a challenging situation to deal with, through careful observation and planning, you might consider what you can do to level your own playing field. What information can you gather to make the best decision for yourself? If someone is trying to cause difficulty for you, how can you gain an advantage over that individual?
