Why not Hillary?

Look..I like Hillary. Yes, I wish she were more socialist like Bernie and more ebullient like Liz, but honestly, every time I hear Andrew Sullivan bash her, the more I want her for President. And I love Sully. I do. I was a faithful Dish reader since the early days of his blog and even though I’m more liberal than Andrew, I appreciate his more conservative viewpoint because he makes it in such an honest, intelligent way. But with all things Hillary, he tends to go off the rails a bit as he did on Real Time the other night.

But here’s the deal with powerful women. Evidently I’m one of those women, although I don’t understand how or why. I’m sure it’s the whole witch thing, but still, it’s odd nevertheless to be considered powerful and then have people respond so unfavorably to that. Oh and save the hysteria for someone who cares because everyone knows this happens with women who speak their minds. We’re fine until we say something someone else doesn’t like, then we’re a bitch or worse. So spare me the the manufactured outrage. I’m in my Crone years now. I don’t care what others think.

What has she done in her life? Well, she’s still married to Bubba, a feat unto itself. Don’t get me wrong..I love him. But he’s a challenge and I’ll leave it at that. No need to rehash that nonsense. But personal stuff aside, he was a great President and Hillary will be as well. She stood for women, in China no less at a time when everyone told her not to go there. She didn’t listen and spoke anyway. And that mattered to women everywhere.

When Bill’s antics became fodder for the right wing, Hillary turned that around and ran for Senator, winning twice. It’s so interesting that the GOP has no problem spending taxpayer dollars on special prosecutors to investigate the Clintons, Benghazi being the latest scam at the expense of the American people, yet they’re happy to waste time as they vote endlessly on repealing the Affordable Care Act, a law that actually protects average citizens from abusive insurance company practices. Governing is apparently not an option for these people.

Following an unsuccessful bid for the White House, as we all know, Hillary became Secretary of State, and from what I saw, she was awesome. She’s known and respected around the world, but because she understands the corporate world in a way that makes some liberals nervous, she’s judged harshly for that, calling her a corporate shill. But a man, on the other hand, would be called shrewd for knowing how to navigate those kind of waters. A woman like Hillary..not so much.

But what would we want her to look like so that we’re comfortable having her as President? Do we want someone who can’t make a decision without asking her husband? Do we want someone who is more concerned with what she’s wearing or how she looks than dealing with whatever crisis is occuring? Do we want someone who will let everyone lead her around by the nose? Or do we want someone who can think for herself, who will surround herself with advisors who aren’t afraid of telling the truth, even when it’s not what any of us wants to hear? Do we want someone who will stand up for what’s right, for a common shared purpose? Or do we want someone who will cave to the one percent among us who pay for their trip to the White House? Frankly, I’m tired of that happening.

I want someone who will shake things up, who will tell the truth to the nation about the state of our nation. Someone who will lay it all out for us. Someone who will tell us the truth. We’ve given the men amongst us enough of a chance to do that. It’s long past time for a woman in the highest office. Hillary is certainly more than qualified, in spite of what Andrew Sullivan says.

It’s not Hillary that’s the problem here. It’s perception. But none of that is based in reality, so it can always change to something more realistic. No politician is perfect. Some may even say that the very fact they’re a politician demonstrates that something is obviously wrong with them, otherwise why would any sane person put up with the drama of the campaign. But Hillary has withstood many trials, both personal and public, and come out on the other side, still willing to stand up for this country. To stand up for all of us.

Maybe it’s time to stand with her.
