The 8 of Wands depicts a sense of swift energy or momentum as eight staffs or poles are thrown into the scene from an unknown source. A castle sits on a hill surrounded by green land and trees in the background suggesting abundance. The suit of Wands reflects the energy of the Fire element; therefore, the suit suggests the expression of will, intuition, new opportunities, creativity, and the spark of life. The numerology of eight indicates material recognition and approval, leadership, inner strength, and success. Turned on its side, the number eight depicts a lemniscate, the symbol for infinity and endless motion or energy.

Considering the eight individual staffs or poles, the 8 of Wands could be suggesting things are happening quickly. Or it could be suggesting that a variety of new opportunities are available from which to choose. Take note of the fourth staff from the top that is hanging a bit behind the others. That might suggest that it’s one that is unexpected or unnoticed given the simultaneous arrival of the other seven, and it might be to your benefit to take notice and not overlook its potential importance.

A card of Mercury in Sagittarius, when the 8 of Wands appears in a reading, it signals new opportunities or a situation where decisions are arrived at quickly. With Sagittarius’s penchant for risk-taking, both risk and timing may also be a factor in any decisions made.
