Significator Runes: Gebo (gift, reciprocity, balanced energy exchange, marriage, partnership) and Rubeus (misuse of force, manipulation, temper, power, violence, overreaction)

Cards: King of Cups (Water element, Court, Minor Arcana), 9 of Swords, (9, Air element, Minor Arcana), and Temperance (14, Water/Fire, Major Arcana)

Numerology: with Gebo: 7+9+14=7+9+5=21=2+1=3; without Gebo: 9+14=23=2+3=5

Beginning with the runes, Gebo is suggesting interacting with others in a balanced way. Gebo is the gift of reciprocity we offer others from a higher perspective. Rubeus, on the other hand, suggests a misuse of force or influence which can impact expressing Gebo in one’s life. Together, it looks like the runes are suggesting that a misuse of force or manipulation could be impacting one’s ability to interact with others in a positive and balanced manner today.

The overall numerology of 3, which includes the numerology of Gebo, reinforces the idea of positive and creative integration with others, while the 5 numerology of the cards only suggests change is necessary to achieve that positive interaction or integration. And, given today’s numerology for the 28th reduces to one, new beginnings are possible.

Moving on to the King of Cups, we see a King sitting on his throne that floats on the water. He holds a chalice in one hand and a scepter in the other and doesn’t look directly at the reader. Although the King of Cups can be loving, generous, and wise, because he can also be passive/aggressive, have problems with commitment and impulsivity, this card aligns well with Rubeus, especially considering the manipulation associated with passive/aggression.

Next, the 9 of Swords shows a man awakening from a nightmare, or perhaps he’s been unable to sleep, with his thoughts weighing on him as evidenced by the nine swords in the background stacked on top of one another. The 9 of Swords suggests a restructuring of perception is necessary, described by both the swords and the pattern on the blanket that covers his legs. One note here: with Mercury currently in retrograde (along with Venus, Saturn, Uranus on 8/29, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron), that could be adding additional impact to interactions as well.

Because both the King and the 9 could be expressing the Rubeus influence of a misuse of force or manipulation, we can see how emotions cloud one’s perceptions and potentially cause this imbalance to begin with that then impacts the ability to engage with others in reciprocity and balance.

Lastly, the answer to the issue seems to be found in Temperance, card 14 from the Major Arcana. We see the angel pouring water from one chalice to another with one foot in the water and one on the land. Yellow irises grow on the water’s edge while a path extends between the water and two mountain peaks in the distance. The Sun rises between the two peaks. The glyph for Fire is on the upper part of the angel’s gown. With change as part of a five numerology, the change implied with Temperance involves balancing will with emotion in a manner that can achieve more realistic boundaries with others.

Summation

If you’re dealing with someone who is passive/aggressive, the reading can be a blueprint for what’s actually happening in those moments when that type of manipulation surfaces in your interactions with that person. But if this applies to you, then the reading describes the how your emotions can propel you to interact in a manner with others that is passive/aggressive or manipulative. Setting your own boundaries are likely a problem and you need to find a more respectful and balanced way of interacting with others so that you’re not manipulating the situation to your advantage. The Full Super Moon in Pisces on Wednesday may help increase emotional awareness. But it’s clear with the 9 of Swords, that your interactions with others needs to change and Temperance is providing the solution.
