Astrology and Human Design – Chart Comparison

Human Design uses both astrological information along with the I Ching to create a picture of how energy flows. I wanted to see how the information gleaned from a bodygram relates to an astrological chart created at roughly the same time. The astrological software I use includes more chart points such as Chiron, that I don’t have with the student version of the Human Design software. It may or may not be included in the professional edition.

Two dates are considered in Human Design. Eighty-eight days before our actual birth, our design information comes into focus, viewed as our unconscious influences. At birth, the personality is established with conscious influences. At first blush, it would seem likely that the astrological chart is a blend of both Human Design charts. But we’ll see if that holds true when we look at the information from both charts.

Sun – From a Design perspective, this individual knows instinctively that they can persevere through chaos. The conscious Personality trusts in the process, aware that concentration and focus will yield positive results. Astrologically, the Sun is in both Sagittarius and the 6th House indicating an evolving Higher Self and a focus on serving others in a healthy, balanced fashion. An alignment is present between astrological and Human Design traits.

Earth – Unfortunately, Earth information isn’t supported by my Astrology software, but I wanted to include it anyway because it seemed interesting. In this bodygram, our conscious Personality would suggest that this person might be currently experiencing some resistance with other people’s happiness, a grinch personality, if you will. Their Design aspect would suggest that they do support the achievements of others, but that apparently some resistance is happening to prevent them from expressing that support.

Moon – I love Moon influences. In this case, our individual consciously sees the value of perseverance, letting the process sustain momentum. The individual stands apart from the experience as a wise teacher, felt on the Design level. Reaching the relationship’s conclusion is seen as a proper result, as with a mentor/student relationship, or perhaps parent/child. The mentor willingly lets go of the relationship, the student/child setting her own course. The Moon in Leo and in the 4th House indicates an individual who is kind, has a sense of humor and flair for the dramatic. His emotional presence is felt by others, and can be prideful and easily offended. It would seem in this case, the astrological chart is offering valuable information here, suggesting that the individual should be aware of his emotional resonance and not let it cloud judgment. Practicing allowing at this point would be a wise choice, letting the emotional wave subside before engaging, knowing the process can continue without him.

North Node – This is one that I wasn’t sure at first how Personality relates to Design. In this case, the individual is consciously the peacemaker, creating harmony and peace from compassion. He understands that winning at all costs isn’t necessary, preferring instead to allow the integrity of others to remain intact. He understands the bigger picture and that more may be at stake than the immediate needs of the victor. This is where Design may influence as he uses his determination to bring about his desired results. With the North Node in Virgo and the 5th House, manifesting thought into reality becomes the focus. The bodygram suggests that thoughts manifested will preserve the integrity of others while bringing resolution to the situation.

South node – Both the Personality and Design aspects represented by the South Node reinforce each other. Design lays the groundwork of survival by maintaining high standards and a moral compass, the Personality engaging in right action. The South Node in Pisces and the 11th House ensures that the individual can make his dreams a reality.

Mercury – The Design aspect brings the awareness that it’s sometimes beyond one’s power to solve a problem alone. The ability to both seek out and offer guidance supports the Personality as it dreams new dreams, aware that he doesn’t have to take the journey alone. Support is there. Mercury in Sagittarius and the 6th house suggests an idealistic, person, not always interested in the details. Although this individual is easily distracted, there’s a willingness to consider alternative perspectives. The individual does well when he remembers to engage in reciprocity with others.

Venus – With Venus in Libra and the 5th House, balance and diplomacy, the individual faces change with calm dignity, regardless of the outcome. Design aspect focuses on leadership skills serving the will of the people. Alignment between Design, Personality, and Astrology is present.

Mars – Here we have some influences that may be at odds. Conscious Personality suggests the individual go within, doing what’s necessary without any recognition. Design indicates that the individual might tend to abdicate responsibility in favor of another’s judgment or rule of law. Mars in Libra and the 5th House suggests opposite influences are in play. Energy, passion, and a dramatic flair indicates a person of strong views, unfraid to assert himself when necessary. Perhaps Mars in Libra is encouraging this individual to take on those characteristics as a balance to his typical inward focus.

Jupiter – Personality aspects indicate a saintly personage, one who maintains harmony with one’s oppressors, while comforting the oppressed. Grace and exhaltation, balanced polarity, and selflessness are reflected in this person’s conscious behavior. On a Design level, it indicates a comfort with temporary unions, expressing intimacy irrespective of the situation. This individual stands apart, or above it all, able to see the larger picture at hand, offering compassion for compassion’s sake. This is supported by the high-minded compassion of Jupiter in Virgo and 4th House. It’s nice when Jupiter’s expansive influence aligns within as it does here.

Saturn – Balance is key from a Personality perspective, with Saturn’s influence lest overreaction or lack of attention become the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Design warns that this person may experience arrogance while in positions of authority. Saturn in Sagittarius the Sixth house suggests the need for balance as well, encouraging the indvidual to lighten up and not be overly critcal of others. Clearly arrogance and humility are issues for this person.

Uranus – Uranus in Aries in 11th house suggests a clever, idealistic person. Progressive, freedom-oriented, and a bit of a noncomformist, this individual is able to function well as a group member, but is able to let go of ego and meet challenges alone if necessary. Design and Personality aspects concur with this influence.

Neptune – Personality indicates an individual who understands that personal responsibility is the foundation of successful partnerships, supported by Design’s evenhanded response to inappropriate behavior. Neptune in Pisces in the 10th House indicates a charming and idealistic person, helpful, and supportive. With the foundation of evenhandedness manifested in a sense of personal responsibility, astrological influences support the individual’s Human Design.

Chiron  – Although not considered in my version of the Human Design software, I still like to look at Chiron’s influences. Chiron seems to have a love/hate relationship with authority, not really sure where the boundaries lie between too much authority and not enough. This individual may feel pushed to success by others in a way not really part of your own destiny. Low self esteem can be present, so positive gains may not be appreciated. I included this because it relates so well to Pluto.

Pluto – Personality is a little at odds with Design in feeling alienated and unable to see that help is there, or to even ask for help. Design influences enable the person to see value in another’s help regardless of who they are. Pluto in Capricorn in the 8th House indicates a serious person, at times willful. Intuitive awareness is present as is some manipulation of others. Care should be taken to let their intuition guide them to see that it’s not necessary to manipulate others for assistance because it’s there at the ready.

So, I have no idea if this exercise is useful in the broader scheme of things toward furthering my understanding of Human Design or astrology, but it was fun to do. Most planets align in both systems or at least reinforce each other. I actually believe Human Design is more useful in understanding who we are than is a natal chart. I like how it considers unconscious influences prior to birth. And the use of the I Ching is so interesting in understanding how we influence and process our lives.

~Blessings to all!
