Spiritual Influences

Using my Hawthorn rune set, I wanted to look at general spiritual influences. I love when I draw Hagalaz, the Witch rune as significator. A Norn rune signifying Urdh, the past, Hagalaz brings both protection and destruction prior to transformation. Hagalaz helps us to overcome obstacles and creates positive results.

Continuing with the theme of fate’s influence, I drew Algiz, Nauthiz and Gebo. Nauthiz, also a Norn rune, represents Skuld, the future. Algiz, the rune of Higher Self, brings protection and transcendent influences to the rune casting. Finally Gebo, the rune of balanced energy exchange, provides the framework for the other influences.

Algiz, or Elhaz, represents the Elk, and protects us from harmful forces. It represents Air, Fire and Water elements that comprise the BiFrost Bridge between physical and nonphysical form. This rune is useful to the witch when increasing the magical resonance surrounding her, strengthening her life force. Algiz connects the witch with her Divine Self within.

Nauthiz, or need, is that which is necessary. A Norn rune, Nauthiz brings the energy of fate into consideration for the witch. Dealing with the future, Nauthiz strengthens the forces of destiny for the witch, awakening her inner fire. Nauthiz assists her in turning bad situations into something more positive and is useful for banishing spells as well.

Finally, Gebo balances the energy of the witch, bringing her into alignment with the divine realm. Gebo creates a link between forces, in the case of the witch, of a magickal nature. A Water element rune, Gebo is useful in love and sex magick, and for promoting marriage and balanced relationships.

Hagalaz itself tells us much about the witch. She is Urdh, the Norn of the Past. I view Hagalaz as the rune of the Crone. Like the witch, Hagalaz disrupts in preparation for change. Like the hail it represents, Hagalaz, again like the witch, is there and gone, change evident, but no trace left of her presence. Shamanic passage and hedgeriding facilitated by Hagalaz, assists the witch in contemplation and reflection.

Protection, need and balancing the forces of destiny are influencing the witch today. Align with Higher Self before any magickal workings for best results. The strength of the Norns, of the Disir, are there for the witch to utilize as she needs. Her inner fire has awakened, and she can do anything.
