Witch Notes: Thoughts on Grounding

Witch NotesAccording to my biorhythm chart, I’m primarily in an inactive phase energy-wise today. I’ve been this way for several days and I can tell you I don’t like it one bit. I’m not really enjoying the Super Bowl today, and the commercials aren’t good at all, at least not so far. But we’re still in the 2nd quarter, so there may be time.

I’m continuing my sojourn into Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn ritual. I love the dual Enochian Scrying/Tattva Tarot deck I have as well as Crowley’s Thoth Tarot. They both reflect Golden Dawn influences. I just finished Kabbalistic Handbook for the Practicing Magician by Joseph C. Lisiewski, and now I’m reading The Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic by Israel Regardie and others. Although I don’t necessarily consider myself a Kabbalist or a Golden Dawn aficionado, I like the notion of aligning with Spirit and working magick from there. I feel a resonance with this type of High Magick.

I first began delving into Golden Dawn ritual when I picked up a copy of Donald Kraig’s book, Modern Magick. I had initially bought it to see what he had to say about the Tarot and I found that it contained so much more than just Tarot information. I found the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram which I perform daily. It’s a lovely way to focus energy and ground into Self.

I love the way energy moves through the Kabbalistic Tree of Life as we focus into physical form. Ten individual Sephirah known collectively as the Sephiroth make up the Tree. Pathways are drawn throughout with correspondences along each path aligning with Major Arcana cards, planetary/zodiac, and the Elements. I like thinking about how energy flows and the Tree depicts this in such an interesting way.

We’re a complex balance of Source Energy in a continual focus into form. Because of our dependance upon the linear time construct, we forget to feel the energy behind our very presence. I’ve been thinking about grounding lately and considering the idea of grounding into Self instead of into Earth. With the linear construct we tend to have reference points everywhere. Time, position, direction, they’re all reference points we use daily. But if we pull back from the body and into the more diffuse aspect of Self, then they become meaningless.

So what exactly are we grounding? If everything is an expression of Source Energy, and we can put energy into anything, then why can’t we ground into our Higher Self? Because it seems to me that in a sense, when we ground, we’re bringing ourselves back into alignment. So, just do that.

I suppose we could argue that we’re grounding negative or harmful energy sometimes and it would be nice to put it somewhere else, but couldn’t we visualize that energy leaving us as we ground into Self? If we remove the reference point of direction and feel the collective resonance of Source Energy within and without, are we simply making real something that amounts to the illusion of form?

My mind wanders when the Super Bowl isn’t all that interesting.. at least the half time show was fabulous. And Lady Gaga.. there are no words for how amazing she is.

Anyway, everyone have a nice week!
