I’ve been looking forward to the geomancy reading for December. It’s a nice departure from the typical divinations I do with runes and tarot. It has an old-world feel to it that I like. Looking over the breakdown of the geomantic symbols on the chart, Elemental Earth energies (7) are the primary influence, followed by Fire (4) and Air and Water both with 2. So, from that standpoint, practical matters may be our greatest focus this month.

Looking at the geomantic symbols, four appear twice: Puella, Carcer, Cauda Draconis, and Conjunctio. Cauda Draconis and Carcer are considered negative if not evil influences while Puella and Conjunctio are considered positive although they both tend to reflect their surroundings. Here is the breakdown:

  1. Puella ~ Air ~ Venus in Libra ~ female sexual energy, charming, young girl, pleasant but can be emotional, seeks unity ~  balances Puer
  2. Rubeus ~ Fire ~ Mars in Scorpio ~ passion, secretive, aggressive, red-haired, fiery temper, force, power, evil outcomes ~ balances Albus
  3. Cauda Draconis ~ Fire ~ S Node in Sagittarius ~ tail of the dragon, endings, self-destructiveness, letting go of the past ~ balances Caput Draconis
  4. Carcer ~ Earth ~ Saturn in Capricorn ~ prison, isolation, endings, outmoded ideas, fate ~  balances Conjunctio
  5. Puella ~ Air ~ Venus in Libra ~ female sexual energy, charming, young girl, pleasant but can be emotional, seeks unity ~ balances Puer
  6. Conjunctio ~ Earth ~ Mercury in Virgo ~ union, joining with others, finding lost items, union of opposites, alternate or unexpected outcome or direction ~ balances Carcer
  7. Amissio ~ Earth ~ Venus in Taurus ~ loss of any kind, dishonesty, tactless, impulsive emotional response, sacrifice ~ balances Acquisitio
  8. Carcer ~ Earth ~ Saturn in Capricorn ~ prison, isolation, endings, outmoded ideas, fate ~  balances Conjunctio
  9. Via ~ Water ~ street, way, direction, active but neutral effect, reflects light ~ balances Populus
  10. Caput Draconis ~ Earth ~ N Node in Virgo ~ upper kingdom, inner threshold, new beginnings, opportunity ~ balances Cauda Draconis
  11. Puer – Fire – Mars in Aries ~ young boy, energy, impulse control issues, unstable, forceful, conflict-oriented, sudden change ~ balances Puella
  12. Fortuna Major ~ Fire ~ Sun in Aquarius ~ success, life, light, good fortune, achievement, inner strength ~ balances Fortuna Minor
  • Right Witness ~ Laetitia ~ Water ~ Jupiter in Pisces ~ joy, health, good fortune, laughter, receptive ~ balances Tristitia
  • Left Witness ~ Cauda Draconis ~ Fire ~ S Node in Sagittarius ~ tail of the dragon, endings, self-destructiveness, letting go of the past ~ balances Caput Draconis
  • Judge (outcome) ~ Conjunctio ~ Earth ~ Mercury in Virgo ~ union, joining with others, finding lost items, union of opposites, alternate or unexpected outcome or direction ~ balances Carcer

I’ll interpret the shield chart in four sections reflecting each week ending with the final section for the outcome.

Week one includes Puella, Rubeus, and Via from sections 1, 2, and 9 with Air, Fire, and Water influencing, so we may need to think about impulse control this week. Puella’s influence will bring a sense of unity or fairness so that may tamp down the passionate and difficult influence of Rubeus. Via will determine the direction.

Week two involves the influences of Cauda Draconis, Carcer, and Caput Draconis from sections 3, 4, and 10. Cauda and Caput balance each other’s influences suggesting beginnings and endings but with Carcer’s influence, we might experience some isolation or perhaps a move away from outmoded ideas.

Week three brings the influences of Puella, Conjunctio, and Puer from sections 5, 6, and 11. As with week two, Puella and Puer balance each other in a sense, but impulsivity is still an issue with both given their youthful energy. Conjunctio joins those energies in a union of opposites, so we may have some additional energy this week to accomplish things but with some balance and equanimity influencing as well.

Finally, in week four, we have Amissio, Carcer, and Fortuna Major, more potentially difficult energy to deal with, but is it? Loss, imprisonment, and success create an interesting combination during this last week of the month and year. But with Fortuna Major’s presence, we may see something ending, but it may be an end to self-defeating behavior that prevents our success.

Admittedly, when I was looking over all of the potentially negative influences, I wasn’t sure how well this month would turn out, at least from this particular geomantic chart. However, sometimes loss doesn’t actually result in something bad happening. It can also mean a loss of a bad habit or a difficult situation. And that may be where we’re going here.

The Right and Left Witnesses and the Judge give the final outcome for the month. Laetitia as the Right Witness brings us joy and Cauda Draconis can indicate a letting go of that which no longer serves. With Conjunctio as the outcome, we see a joining together of opposites so I really have to interpret this as a letting go of destructive tendencies to find unity with others. Carcer, in section 4 of week two, reinforces this idea of letting go of destructive tendencies, so I feel comfortable with that interpretation. The fourth position is considered the end of the matter. And it appears to reinforce the Left Witness.

This is a lovely outcome for a difficult and confusing year for many. We may thankfully begin the new year on a high note!

Blessings to all!
