April’s arrived and it’s time again for a look at what the tarot cards suggest for the coming month. I’ll look at three cards from my Morgan-Greer deck for each week as well as their numerology. A cursory look indicates that intellect and will dominate the influences. The breakdown follows:

  • Swords ~ Air ~ intellect ~ 4 cards
  • Wands/Rods ~ Fire ~ will ~ 4 cards
  • Pentacles ~ Earth ~ physical matters ~ 2 cards
  • Cups ~ Water ~ emotions ~ 1 card
  • Court ~ Page (2 cards), King (2 cards)
  • Numerology ~ overall (5), week 1 (1), week 2 (2), week three (9), week four (11)

Week One

Week One ~ Page of Swords, Page of Pentacles, 10 of Swords

The first week of April begins with a numerology of one or new beginnings also reflected in the appearance of the two Pages (Swords and Pentacles) and the stunningly brutal 10 of Swords. Our two Pages appear to be involved in a conversation, each one offering his own perspective on the matter. The Page of Swords may bear a message while the Page of Pentacles listens intently, his security concerns evident by the large pentacle he holds. The battle is over, evidenced by the 10 of Swords, where no more pain is possible. We’ve cut through any nonsense that may be affecting our lives and we’re ready to pursue a new focus, perhaps one that is spiritual in nature. The 10 of Swords asks us to go beyond any self-imposed limits and let go of beliefs which no longer serve.

Week Two

Week Two ~ 8 of Pentacles, 9 of Swords, 3 of Cups

Whereas Air (intellect/reason) and Earth (physical matters) were active in week one, our emotions add to that mix in week two. A numerology of two suggests that decisions, balanced interaction, polarity, and cause and effect may be in focus as well. A man works his trade in the 8 of Pentacles. He is well-prepared for the future and we see an attention to detail in his work and it appears to be a profitable undertaking. However, something is amiss with the appearance of the 9 of Swords, introducing the idea of being bound by our perceptions or the possibility of control by others. Then we see three women looking directly at the observer as they sit together in celebration. Each woman wears a flowered garland in her hair as three golden chalices are placed before them, fruit strewn about the table. The 9 and the 3 appear to be polar opposites, where the 9 suggests inner struggle or turmoil as well as negative self-talk, while the 3 is about positive interaction with others. Perhaps we’ve been avoiding interaction with others, preferring to spend our time focused on work at the expense of spending time with family or friends. Or it could simply be that we’ve been under some pressure lately to perform at work and this week’s cards are suggesting that we take some time for pleasure. All work and no play leaves us out of balance and as this week’s overall numerology reinforces the need to take some time away to recharge.

Week Three

Week Three ~ 5 of Wands, King of Rods/Pentacles, The Emperor

An initial look at week three suggests some aggressive energy in play although an overall numerology of nine may indicate an end to such. The 5 of Wands suggests conflict or at least a playful struggle is occurring while the King of Rods and The Emperor look on. Both men are symbols of authority, possibly mentors to those engaged in the fracas. Both may be opinionated and bigoted, yet each can also be generous and kind. The 4th card of the Major Arcana, The Emperor sits on his throne, an eagle standing resolutely by his side. Another tops his crown, a symbol of wisdom and leadership. Could there be a battle of wills this week between two authority figures? Are we processing our own authority in a respectful manner? Or perhaps a project is nearing completion with the basic components finally falling into place. Either way, it’s a week to stay alert.

Week Four

Week Four ~ The King of Swords, 3 of Rods/Wands, 8 of Rods/Wands

Something may be revealed this week with an overall numerology of eleven present, or the Master Number for illumination. The King of Swords appears looking to the past, a sword and a stalk of wheat in one hand and an oak branch surrounding his shoulders. His crown is interesting, solid and strong, less ornate than other crowns. This King is analytical and resolute, the wise, loyal counselor. His power lies in his ability to reason and to arbitrate conflict with logic and fairness. The 3 of Wands depicts a merchant waiting for an opportunity to either present itself, or to come to fruition. The three oak-leaved staffs suggest protection and support as well as the alignment of mind, body, and Spirit. Synchronicity and confidence are indicated by the 8 of Wands as we see two groups of four wands each moving swiftly toward their target. Balanced, unified effort is portrayed by the 8 of Wands, advancing toward a conclusion of some kind. If things fell into place last week, we may reap the benefits this week. The King of Swords may lend perspective to the King and the Emperor from week three as he elevates the discourse of those in conflict from the 5 of Wands. However, caution may be necessary if decisions this week are made too swiftly. The energy of the King of Swords should have a positive effect here.

In summary, with the overall numerology of five, or change, as an overall focus, we may receive a message in the first week of April that sends us into a new direction, possibly of a spiritual nature. We’re to let go of what no longer serves and begin this process with a new vision. Although we may be focused upon our career, it may be at the expense of self and others. Take some time during week two to check in with family and friends for a much-needed respite. Week three may involve issues with authority, but it doesn’t appear to be insurmountable. If this pertains to our own expression of authority, be mindful of the effect we have upon others and avoid getting in the way of the process or eventual goal. Finally, in week four, things seem to be coming together in a balanced fashion. Guard against decisions that are made too swiftly.

Until next month…

Tarot Blessings!
