The garden has been calling, so I’ve been remiss in my Moon Magick posts. It wasn’t intentional, but when I’m out there, I lose all track of everything. I don’t eat or remember to do anything other than plant something or clear out something. But since the Moon doesn’t move until tomorrow it gives me enough time to look at the chart as well as one of the Rosetta patterns in the current chart that involves the Moon.

The Moon travels into my own sign of Libra and the 7th House of partnership and marriage at 4:23 AM PDT on 17 April 2019 remaining there until Void of Course begins at 4:12 AM PDT on the 19th. Relationships are in focus over the next couple of days and although it’s tempting for the Libra influence to appease others in an effort to bring balance, sometimes it’s more interesting to simply step back and observe the process. The chart is below:

Chart Information

  • Mode ~ Cardinal energies dominate providing us with the ability to initiate projects during this lunar phase.
  • Element ~ In synchronicity with Cardinal energies, the Fire Element dominates with the remaining elements in balance. Again, we possess the will to manifest during this period.
  • Ray ~ 1st (will/power), 3rd (active intelligence), and 7th (ceremonial order and magic) Rays provide the strongest influence.
  • Sign ~ Aries: initiating, Libra: balancing, and Pisces: compassion, sensitivity provide the strongest influence.
  • House ~ 1st and 2nd Houses are the strongest influences governing how we see the self and how others see us as well as valued resources.
  • Quadrants ~ 1st Quadrant – focus on self-expression; Eastern Hemisphere – focus on self-motivation
  • Retrograde ~ Ceres at 14 deg Sag affecting nurturing self and others; Jupiter on 4/10 at 24 deg Sag fostering an inward focus.
  • Lunar Phase ~ Gibbous, waxing

Aspects

Self-doubt may creep in with an opposition between the Moon and Mercury (Orb 0 deg 15′ applying) and we may be unsure whether to follow our heart or a focus on reason. And although less of an impact, a second opposition with Venus (Orb 3 deg 52′ separating) potentially leaves us feeling uncomfortable in our interactions with others. A quincunx with Uranus (Org 2 deg 12′ applying) suggests that we make an effort to strike a balance between self and others.

A Rosetta or Trapeze pattern appears in the chart that I wanted to explore a little because it includes the Moon. This pattern combines friendly (sextile, trine) and challenging (square) interactions with a sextile, a trine, and two squares. In the case of this Rosetta pattern the Sun sextiles Juno while it squares Pluto; and, the Moon squares Juno while it also trines Pluto. It’s said that this particular aspect can be difficult with the energy of playing one side against the other a possibility. And yes, I created the graphic below to show the relationships.

Rosetta (Trapeze) Aspect Pattern
  • Sun sextile Juno (Orb 1 deg 16′ applying): Sun in Aries/2nd House, Juno in Gemini/4th House; assertiveness tempered with a protective nature
  • Sun square Pluto (Orb 4 deg 01′ separating): Sun in Aries/2nd House, Pluto in Capricorn/11th House; aggressiveness bordering on out-of-control, compromise is needed
  • Moon trine Pluto (Orb 6 deg 52′ separating): powerful and intense, leadership skills, understands motivation
  • Moon square Juno (Orb 1 deg 33′ separating): balance required between nurturing self and others (both giving and receiving)

The Sun clearly has a better relationship with Juno than does the Moon in this aspect pattern. Here we see a forceful person but one that is protective of others at odds with one that isn’t quite sure of their relationships with others. So, in a sense, a protective nature may be in conflict with either extending or receiving emotional support from others. The Moon seems to have an easier time with Pluto in that leadership skills find a positive expression, particularly with understanding the motivations of others. However, the Sun square Pluto suggests aggression that’s really interfering in our relationships with others. Clearly, this aspect is describing will in conflict with emotions, or a desire to control over a need for balance in our relationships with others. In other words, just another day in a Libran’s life.

Magickal Workings

Wednesday magicks involve Mercury and Elemental Air. The direction is East, the energy masculine or projective, and the power is To Know. Colors to include are yellow and purple and agate, emerald, fluorite, citrine, and topaz can be used for energetic support. Resins and incenses include benzoin and frankincense and the witch may also be inclined to burn some marjoram or lavender in the cauldron for workings involving communication and clarity. If including runes, Ansuz, Raidho, Kenaz, Tiwaz, and Mannaz may be useful. If considering the 15th Mansion of the Moon in the working, be advised that Algafra can create tension between people.

Thursday magicks are amplified by Jupiter’s influence, although currently, the Jovian planet is in retrograde. Several elements are mentioned in the various grimoires, but in Witch Notes, I’ve mentioned Air followed by Fire and possibly Earth. Each one seems apropos but Air is typically thought to be the primary elemental influence so Jupiter shares some of the same correspondences with Mercury. However, there are some differences. Blue is its color, its energy is balanced, its stones are sapphire, jasper, emerald (shared), and beryl. Herbs include the mints, basil, elecampane, and licorice while resins include balm, ambergris, and saffron. Corresponding runes include Fehu, Wunjo, Jera, Berkano, Mannaz, and Othala. Notice that Earth element runes are included here as well. Care must be taken when performing magick on this day to allow for the retrograde effect upon Jupiter’s expansive energies. Workings can include a justice focus, or healing, abundance, and achieving goals. If attempting to release someone from prison, the 16th Mansion of the Moon, Azubene, can be employed for such a purpose.

The sister sign to Libra is Aries, hence the issue between control and allowing. Librans are best, however, when they stay in the observer role, the midpoint on the scales. In other words, stay out of the pans. Because once we dive in, it’s over. We’re in it until we’re too exhausted to continue. So as the Moon travels through Libra, it might be best to remain silent. Observe only. Otherwise, control issues might arise and prevent the Libran sense of fairness and compassion from shining through.

Until next time…

Lunar Blessings!

And if you’re interested in my latest book, you can click on the picture below and it will take you to Amazon where you can purchase Witch Notes in Kindle or paperback formats. Note that the Kindle book has a black cover with a moon…it’s what happens when I self-publish the Kindle version before I see if the same picture can be used for the paperback. It ended up being too blurry, so I used the alternate that you see below. Thanks in advance for taking a look!
