May is here and it’s time again to look at the Tarot influences for the coming month. I’ll look at three cards per week as general influences, the numerology involved, as well as the overall outlook for the month. The card breakdown follows:

  • Wands (Fire/will) ~ 3 (8, 5, King)
  • Pentacles (Earth/physical) ~ 2 (Ace, 6)
  • Cups (Water/emotions) ~ 4 (5, Page, 6, King)
  • Swords (Air/intellect) ~ 0
  • Court ~ 2 (Page of Cups, King of Cups)
  • Majors ~ 3 (The Sun, High Priestess, The World)
  • Numerology ~ overall – 1 or new beginnings
    • Week 1 ~ 6 – Higher Self, harmony, balance, peace
    • Week 2 ~ 5 – change, justice, pentagram, protection
    • Week 3 ~ 11 – Master Number for illumination
    • Week 4 ~ 6 – Higher Self, harmony, balance, peace

Week One

In order that I keep my four-week format, the first week of of May is going to include a few more days given that May begins on a Wednesday. Emotions dominate this first week of May with influences from the Page of Cups, 5 of Cups and The Sun. The Page and the 5 suggest depression or emotional loss. The Page of Cups depicts a pensive young woman wearing a blue-feathered hat and a red billowy cape. A blue fish appears to leap upwards from a golden chalice, yet she seems unaffected by the gesture. The Page depicts imagination and intuition as well as discretion.

The 5 of Cups takes the pensiveness found with the Page and intensifies that experience as we see a man with his head bowed, two cups behind him while there more are spilled on the ground. The sky dark and menacing, a castle rises on a hill above a body of water separating the man from his home.

The Sun rounds out week one’s cards as it rises above a rock wall, sunflowers in full bloom. A young man and woman stand before each other a large sunflower between them. The 19th card from the Major Arcana indicates happiness and fulfillment, clarity and success. The light has returned and awakening has begun!

Although we begin this extended week in a questionable emotional state, we make the choice to find happiness instead. The numerology for the week is six or Higher Self influences which creates the space for healing and a more directed focus.

Week Two

Emotions continue to play a role in week two with the 6 of Cups and King of Cups providing the primary emotional influence followed by the 8 of Wands (Rods in the Morgan-Greer deck). Initially, we see 8 staffs flying through the air in the 8 of Wands suggesting a lot coming in on us this week. This could indicate conflict, but it also could indicate many burdens or at least a full plate.

A boy offers a chalice filled with flowers to a girl, a gift expressing shared abundance or love in the 6 of Cups. Note the white lilies in each cup indicating purity and innocence. There is no expectation of reciprocity, only a selfless act of love. We have all we need and we extend that blessing to others.

Then we come to the King of Cups. He’s a man in authority and can be both self and other-focused. Although he is compassionate and kind, he can also become intolerant and shallow. The Water Element involves change and this man’s emotions tend to reflect his surroundings, more reactive than projective.

As in week one, our emotions continue to dominate our experiences with the 8 of Wands suggesting that we may feel overwhelmed by too many commitments. It’s almost a feeling of it’s all coming due this week. But then assistance may be offered, and if not that, at least a shared perspective with the 6 of Cups reinforced by the presence of the King asking that we remain open to both change as well as a shared experience. And a five numerology assists as we embrace change while keeping mind, body, and Spirit in balance.

Week Three

More shared abundance this week, this time of a practical nature as the 6 of Pentacles begins the third week’s influences followed by two cards from the Major Arcana, the High Priestess and the World. With an overall numerology of eleven, or the Master Number for illumination, Higher Self influences are directing our focus.

In the 6 of Pentacles, like in the 6 of Cups from last week, we see a man of means handing coins to outstretched hands while holding a scale in his left hand. Six pentacles rise behind him in balance as he shares his wealth with others. The 6 of Pentacles represents generosity and unexpected gifts, charity and justice. Again, as in the 6 of Cups, we have all that we need and we’re extending those blessings to others.

The High Priestess appears next as she sits on a draped throne holding a scroll with her feet resting on an upturned crescent moon. She is the Feminine Divine, possessing intuition and secret knowledge. The gateway to the unconscious realm, the High Priestess guides us from within, providing revelation and inspiration. When she appears, she asks us to align in our true Source Presence and express our will from that sacred still point.

The World ends the week suggesting synthesis, completion, and reward. We reach the end of the journey with the World, the soul’s experience in form complete. Given the emotional nature of the first two weeks of the month, this may be signaling movement into a more dispassionate response.

We take back our power with the High Priestess, aligning Spirit with ego, allowing for the possibility of a shared, reciprocal relationship with others. We made the choice early in week one to choose happiness over loss with each week that follows building upon that choice. A focus on loss prevents us from moving forward, and the World may be indicating an end to that.

Week Four

We begin week four with the Ace of Pentacles indicating stability, security, and material wealth. The Ace also reflects a grounded nature and may suggest that the completion felt last week has provided the structure or foundation for new experiences.

But then we come to the 5 of Wands (Rods) and the King of Wands (Rods) and some will comes into play. I’m going to look at these two cards in relationship to each other given that it looks like the King is observing whatever is going on in the 5. But instead of real conflict, the 5 of Wands appears to suggest the strength of disparate ideas or intentions. That together we can accomplish more than we can individually. Although each individual stands in his own power, instead of a battle of wills, each one is willingly engages with others in an effort to build a new legacy, one that the King appears to be either observing or directing.

A six numerology reinforces a higher level of thinking in the choice to unite for a common purpose and provides the energy for that this week.

May, a five energy, expresses change as life returns to the Earth, a neverending cycle of birth and death. Although our focus may have been disturbed by loss during the first week, Higher Self provides a strong influence and we’re back on track for the remainder of the month. The important takeaway here is that we allow for Spirit to guide our choices, choosing happiness and shared experience over loss and isolation. With an overall numerology of one or new beginnings, aligning with Spirit establishes a new path and a new foundation.

Until next month…

Blessings to all!
