The Moon travels into sensitive Cancer and the 7th House of partnerships at 6:24 PM PDT until it moves into Leo at 8:20 PM PDT on the 3rd. Retreating from stressful situations may be in order for the next few days, and we may feel inclined to seek comfort and nurturing from family and friends. Boundary issues may arise if we give in to a people-pleasing response so strike a healthy balance between taking care of your own needs and the needs of others. Spending time in meditation on Tuesday’s New Moon may be helpful. The chart is below:

Chart Breakdown

  • Mode/Quality – energies that are both initiating (Cardinal) and unstable (Mutable) are influencing with stable or Fixed energies a lesser influence suggesting that plenty of energy is available for change and initiating new projects.
  • Element – Air (intellect) is in a weakened state suggesting that we may have trouble with objectivity and indecisiveness may result.
  • Ray –  3rd (Active Intelligence) and 7th (Ceremonial Order and Magick) Rays continue their strong influence supporting strategy and strong communication skills as well as organized thinking.
  • Sign – Capricorn and Cancer provide the strongest influences with some responding better to emotional Cancer while others may be more comfortable with responsible Capricorn energies.
  • House – the 1st House defines the way we see ourselves as well as how others see us. The 7th House suggests that partnership is important and the 8th describes the support received from others. Together, these three house influences suggest that we derive a sense of self through our interactions with and support from others. Boundary issues may result.
  • Quadrant/Hemisphere – The third quadrant stands out suggesting the need for objectivity in relationships which seems to be at odds with the Cancerian influence.
  • Aspects of the Moon
    • Conjunction the Sun – Orb 9°54′ Applying – suggesting a New Moon influence, new beginnings, a focus on the self, and a lack of objectivity
    • Conjunction Venus – Orb 1°56′ Separating – describes a gentle individual who loves interacting with others and prefers spiritual and artistic activities.
    • Square Chiron – Orb 5°54′ Applying – indicates emotional wounding is at the surface and we may feel misunderstood by others in our lives, particularly mother figures. This may interfere with our ability to nurture self and others.
    • Quincunx Ceres – Orb 1°16′ Applying – suggests a difficulty with relationships with women surrounding emotions and empathy.
    • Square the Midheaven – Orb 0-°24′ Applying – The Midheaven in Virgo indicates that our choice of career needs to align with emotional satisfaction. Authority may be a problem if the boss isn’t really up to the job.
  • Human Design/I Ching
    • 7/1 ~ Gate 15 Modesty Line 2 Influence indicates an influence that establishes standards; 5-15 – Channel of Rhythm – being in the flow; 12-22 – Channel of Openness – a social individual
    • 7/2 ~ Gate 39 Obstruction Line 6 The Troubleshooter describes the ability to discover solutions, at times, by instigating others; 5-15; Channel of Rhythm – being in the flow – continues its energetic influence
  • Retrograde – Ceres (issues of self-nurturing), Jupiter (inward focus), Pluto (dealing with karmic debt), and Saturn (revisit old issues, inward discipline), Neptune (a focus on the spiritual versus the mundane, remain in observer/Higher Self mode)
  • Lunar Phase – Balsamic, waning, New Moon

Aspects

I like to look at various energetic influences and the aspects of the Moon offer insight into how planetary interactions affect our lives. Including Human Design Gate and Line information also provides similar information albeit from the I Ching, a separate divination system.

One thing that stands out looking at the above chart information is that objectivity and boundaries may be challenging over the next few days and interactions with others may become a source of confusion. Interactions with the women in our lives may be tenuous if emotional woundings are at the surface and empathy may suffer in the process. The Moon’s quincunx with Ceres aligns with Ceres’s retrograde influence and may serve to reinforce this challenge.

An interesting lunar transit involving Gate 39 Obstruction Line 6 The Troubleshooter from the Human Design bodygram describes the use of obstruction to initiate action by others. This could relate to the Moon’s square with the Midheaven (in Virgo) where we may have difficulty with authority. In other words, energy is present to instigate others into action.

Although the Cancerian influence seeks harmony, if emotions are out of balance, that same harmonious influence may become manipulative, so if the chance arises to provoke investigation or change, we might want to be aware of our motives.

Magickal Workings

Just prior to the New Moon, she’s in her darkened phase, and magicks or rituals involving alignment and purification may be worked. Perfect to set the tone for magicks to initiate new beginnings on Monday, the 1st.

With the New Moon on the 2nd, a witch can continue the focus on magicks of new beginnings, making use of the Martial influence on Tuesday for workings that support initiating new projects or change from within. A total solar eclipse also occurs, although I’ve heard that those of us in the northern hemisphere won’t see it. However, a witch, if so inclined, can still work magicks focusing on transition, for example, while the Sun is eclipsing away from our view.

All days in this lunar period are considered excellent for magickal workings, however, caution should be taken on the evening of the 2nd to offset the negative influence of Altarf, the 9th Mansion of the Moon as it tends to cause discord.

If interactions become difficult, Algebha fosters love and compassion which the witch may find useful in any workings involving communication on Wednesday.

Quartz crystals of all types are favored as are celestite, fluorite, and selenite. Copal and Sandalwood are useful for purification rituals, myrrh for healing and transformation, juniper resin for motivation, and Dragon’s blood for strength.

Candles used on Mondays are typically white although black may be used to represent Goddess presence and the void of creation. Purple or indigo may also be used in trance work or hedgeriding. On energetic Tuesday, red candles are used to stimulate the working, while on Wednesday, yellow and purple candles are effective.

The New Moon gives us an opportunity to reset the stage, so to speak, and begin anew. It’s my favorite time of the month, well, if I were completely honest, it’s actually the dark time, but then I’m a Crone and it is what it is. And if magicks worked during this time invoke a protective focus, the current energies stand ready to assist because after all, a witch’s ability to reset things takes many forms. And no witch can resist a challenge.

Until next time…

Lunar Blessings!
