August is upon us and it’s time again to look at the geomancy influences for the coming month. An eight numerology, August brings awareness of the collective consciousness, practical matters, justice, and universal harmony. The geomancy shield chart below can offer some additional influences.

Taking a moment to review, geomancy is an older divination method that involves creating symbols comprised of single and double dots. Four geomantic runes are thrown a total of four times creating the initial four runes. From there, the remainder of the runes are created from the first four. The first two levels break down into four sections comprising each week while the lower section comprises the final influences and outcome. And if that’s not enough, the chart is read from right to left. So, let’s take a closer look at the chart and how it breaks down:

  1. Populus – Moon in Cancer, Water, people, group behavior, follower, passive
  2. Laetitia – Jupiter in Taurus, Air, joy, gladness
  3. Via – Moon in Leo (or Cancer), Water, path, journey, active presence
  4. Tristitia – Saturn in Aquarius, Earth, sadness, grief, evil
  5. Conjunctio – Mercury in Virgo, Air, joining, unity

Week One

The first week of August begins with Populus, and Laetitia (twice) suggesting the energy for allowing as well as the expression of joy is present. In this case, Populus provides the underlying flow of the week (passive, allowing) and Laetitia provides the space to be happy and joyful.

As things calm down after a chaotic Mercury retrograde (at least it was for me) week one may offer some calm after the storm. We might allow emotions to settle if communications have been strained and spend this time centering our energy and perspective.

But if the opportunity presents itself, extending love and peace in our interactions with others goes a long way. And with Laetitia appearing twice, it emphasizes feelings of joy and harmony within and without, so the first week of the month should be positive and flow well.

Week Two

A new path may be necessary during week two with Via, Tristitia, and Cauda Draconis blending their energetic influences together. Via indicates a new path, one that is intentional. After joyful Laetitia in week one, its opposite or balancing rune Trisititia appears suggesting sadness, grief, and possibly an evil intent. After that, Cauda Draconis, the geomantic rune of endings appears as either the potential cause for the change from joy to sadness or it’s acting as the outcome.

Unfortunately, week two appears to bring some challenges that may foster feelings of grief, so much so that a new path may be necessary. Something is coming to an end, but it’s not necessarily a negative thing. This may also indicate that a difficult situation may be coming to an end, one that has caused us grief and sadness and this week may be where we deal with all of it.

Geomancy is interesting in that it can be viewed from the standpoint of energetic flow. So, simply because a rune or symbol is considered evil, it may also indicate energy filled with passion or a single-minded focus. And when that happens, any number of problems can arise, hence the idea of an evil influence.

I tend to ignore some of that, or at least keep it in the back of my mind, and look at the influences from an energetic standpoint. So while we may certainly experience a change in mood from joy to sadness or grief, that experience, in and of itself, may not be the outcome, but a transition into something new and better. I see Via as a positive choice to take a new path, even if it’s moving around a bunch of nonsense that shouldn’t be happening in the first place. So, time will tell how this one plays out for people.

Week Three

Conjunctio, Albus, and Rubeus blend together to influence week three suggesting energy available for joining, wisdom, and passion. Of course, the passion involved in Rubeus isn’t necessarily positive. Rubeus is governed by Scorpio and as such, it can suggest secretiveness and manipulation at work.

However, when in balance, the Rubeus energy can get things started and is able to think outside the box so perhaps it will be that influence that will reinforce whatever new path that was taken in week two.

The wisdom of Albus is present allowing us to see beyond the moment, necessary when taking a new path. And apparently, we either have support with Conjunctio’s influence or we’ve begun a path toward reunification.

Either way, this feels like a continuation of week two, with a further definition of the new path we’re on. It’s rare we know how things will unfold, and week three may be part of that unfolding process.

Week Four

We can view the outlier in the group as a motivating factor and in week four, Tristitia may be providing that impetus. Albus continues its wise influence bringing clarity and experience into focus followed by Fortuna Major and the idea of greater fortune.

A closer look at Tristitia finds that this geomantic rune is governed by Saturn in Aquarius, an interesting combination to be sure. Saturn slows and restricts while Aquarius flys free, so you can see the problem here. Restriction of any kind isn’t appreciated by the Aquarian influence so that may be where our sadness may bring either awareness or provide the impetus for change.

We may break free from old ideas that no longer serve us this week, perhaps part of the new path we’re on, which may allow for the possibility of greater fortune. Remember, however, that we’re talking about energetic influence here, so fortune can take many forms.

Underlying Influences and the Outcome

At the bottom of the shield chart, you’ll see three more geomantic runes, the Right and Left Witnesses and the Judge. I typically view the Right and Left Witnesses as underlying influences but for the purposes of the monthly reading, I’m treating them as past and present or future influences.

[wordads]

The final geomantic rune, known as the Judge, brings everything together as the Outcome. And if the purpose of the reading still isn’t clear, the Judge and the first geomantic rune may be combined together to discover a reconciler, but that won’t be necessary for this reading.

The Right and Left Witnesses are Conjunctio and Acquisitio suggesting past unity followed by present or future gain, reinforced by Fortuna Major appearing as the final outcome reflecting greater fortune. The idea of past unity is interesting given that Conjunctio appears twice, both in week three and as the Left Witness which I’m utilizing to represent the past.

With that in mind, it appears that we may have suffered an estrangement that is now resolving. A new path is taken that may provide the way forward to resolution and reunification. Support is regained from others with the appearance of Acquisitio with the final outcome of Fortuna Major signaling our greatest fortune is found in our relationships with others. Together we can accomplish anything seems to be its message.

Awesome!

Until next month…

Earth Blessings to all!
