Protection for Healing: A Bindrune

Protection for Healing: A Bindrune

Today on Somewhat Daily Tarot and Rune I decided to dispense with my typical tarot and rune reading and create a bindrune to protect those victims who need to find protection while the abuser-in-chief pays them a visit. He’s not wanted, but like any garden-variety abuser, it’s all about him, therefore, he’s going anyway. Victims be damned one more time.

Of course, I did literally throw down three cards, again dispensing with my typical routine of drawing the thirteenth card each time just to keep everything random. I drew the 4 of Cups (pity party), Page of Wands (message), and the 5 of Swords (happy to pick up the spoils) so you can see where that was going. The eventual bindrune would be a response to a selfish person who takes great glee when he causes suffering.

After casting the intention of protection so that people can heal in a safe and loving environment after a terrorist destroyed all of that, I drew Perthro, Wunjo, Eihwaz, and Jera. Perfect.

Perthro describes the fate of man and the Norn’s control over that fate and I used it as a basis or foundation, a cauldron of sorts, to hold people together in love and unity in the days ahead. We experience the unknown with Perthro, but the truth is, our fate is largely up to us. The racism at the heart of these terrorist attacks can be replaced with choices that foster healing and unity. Let that choice to heal together within the cauldron of love provide a new foundation and a new way forward.

Next, Wunjo represents the clarion call to love and fellowship. Joy, peace, and unity are possible within the loving energy of Wunjo. Its primary place in the center of the bindrune provides the basis for healing for those who have lost so much and it establishes the underlying unity we share.

Eihwaz, as the quintessential as above so below energy of the Elder Futhark, describes the flow of Spirit into the bindrune, energizing and blending its energy into one cohesive expression of Spirit. Eihwaz binds energy together into one flowing magickal intention.

The final rune used in the protection bindrune is Jera, another rune that transforms energy from one state to another, in this case, from loss to some level of peace so that those affected can find some footing to continue on. The need for support from others is implied here as we see the light of Kenaz turned inward and outward in this transformative rune.

Every time a mass shooting occurs, we’re reminded that had the Assault Weapons Ban not ended, we might not be experiencing these tragedies now. Children shouldn’t have to undergo active shooter drills along with their regular studies nor should anyone have to fear shopping at the grocery store on a Saturday with their family.

But at this point, all that we can do is hold each other and say I love you. Hold the bindrune if you like in your hand, covering it with the other, and cast the intention of protection and healing. And if you feel so inclined, take that energy to a vigil or protest and make your intention felt there.

Too many of us have been harmed. Too many of us have died. It needs to stop. It’s time to remember who we are and who we are to each other.

Blessings to all…
