2026 New Year’s Day Tarot Reading

I live in a rural area where gunfire happens all the time. I wish I could say it was farm or ranch related, but these days, it’s someone shooting their weapons for whatever reason. New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July seem to be the most prevalent holidays to do this, but really, it can happen at any time.
The reading above takes a Dagaz formation, three cards representing what was, what the focus is now, and the intended goal. Dagaz ᛞ, the 23rd rune from the Elder Futhark, describes the end of one phase and the beginning of another. However, if you draw it mentally (or with a stick if you’re outside) on the ground and stand in the center point (it’s perfect for an Equinox ritual), you can visualize what’s been, where you see yourself right now, and where you might end up. Otherwise, if you like, you can see the spread as a past/present/future reading.
From left to right, the first card (5 of Cups) describes the overall feeling regarding 2025, which is essentially extreme emotional loss and grief. The middle card (6 of Cups) describes what needs to happen during 2026 to alleviate that profound loss, which shows harmony, selflessness, friendship, and a shared experience. Lastly, the final card on the right (Strength) illustrates what we’ll gain by embracing the harmony and reciprocity described by the 6 of Cups: a higher level of thinking, taming the wild within, trust, courage, and unconditional love.
The overall numerology is one, or new beginnings, which I would suggest is what we need to put the profound loss experienced by many in 2025 in the past, so we can move on in harmony, courage, and strength in 2026.
Easy peasy…right? I guess we’ll see.
Blessings to all as this new year begins…
