Thor’s Hammer – Growth Through Allowing

Since I like to explore the different astrological aspects that occur in the heavens, I thought I’d take a look at an aspect known as Thor’s Hammer. Like the Yod, the Thor’s Hammer aspect involves an interaction between three planetary bodies, in this case between Mars, the South Node, and the Moon. The structure itself involves two bodies in square (90°) with each other (Mars and the South Node) while in sesquisquare (135°) with the third (the Moon).

Square aspects suggest challenges and obstacles between the two energies involved while the sesquisquare (aka sesquiquadrate) essentially suggests the same but perhaps we’re less aware of its effect, either willfully or otherwise. The sesquisquare may also indicate an area where growth is needed. The aspect appears below:

After looking at each body’s placement, I’ll initially focus on the Moon and how its energy manifests in light of the challenges between Mars and the South Node. The Moon itself is in Taurus and the 7th House suggesting security found in home and family.

The Moon sesquisquare Mars cautions against overreaction either in our interactions with others or if challenging situations arise while the same with the South Node asks us to reevaluate our destiny in life. Are we going in the right direction? Do we feel secure with our current choice?

The South Node of the Moon in Capricorn and the 2nd House of self-worth suggests humility and honest emotional expression may be challenging particularly involving self-control or the development of spiritual values. The South Node describes past life influence and in square with Mars, currently in Libra and the 7th House of partnership, it suggests that an opportunity for a new direction may arise in our relationships with others with Mars providing the impetus for change.

Even though Mars may provide the breakthrough energy necessary for a shift away from old patterns, it feels like the Moon is simply reluctant to embrace change, a reaction that is likely fear-based. This ultimate challenge is reinforced by the presence of the past-life influence of the South Node which may provide more confusion than resolution, particularly if that influence doesn’t appear to resonate in our lives.

The Moon’s Watery energy suggests change and flow and with today’s Thor’s Hammer aspect pattern, we may experience something new and exciting if we let go of that which no longer serves and embrace the unknown. However, rather than finding strength and courage from an aggressive stance, try instead to drop resistance and allow change to take hold.

Until next time…

Blessings to all!
