Rain, Forest and Clouds are the subject of today’s Earth Magic casting. One can almost feel the essence of each card – Purification, Breath and Shapeshifting, without reviewing the accompanying text. I really like three card landscape layouts as they suggest awareness going forward. Things to keep in mind as we go about our day. I also added the Runic influences of Laguz, Ansuz and Eihwaz to this last Sunday casting of the year. I love the symbolism of beginnings and endings. A landscape reading at the beginning or end of the year can bring the prior year into perspective and offer considerations to make as the new year begins. The Moon has entered her first quarter in Aries today, adding energy of rebirth and balance to the casting.

Rain suggests purification and cleansing, detoxifying our bodies, our attitudes, our energy – whatever that’s become toxic in our lives. Along with Laguz, a rune representing Water, purification increases our flow of energy, and increases our alignment with Source. It encourages us to let go of anything which distracts from that purpose, encouraging non-resistance. My selection of Runes made from willow, a vibrational correspondence with Laguz, was intentional, bringing further alignment to the casting.

I love walking in the forest among the trees. I breathe better there. We’ve duplicated that feeling in the immediate area around our home by planting trees everywhere. After living here for more than thirty years, it’s become like a small forest, so alive with the sounds of birds in the trees, waterfowl swimming and bullfrogs croaking in the ponds, the trees appearing to shimmer as bees cover them throughout spring and summer. It’s a sanctuary complete with gardens, greenhouses and a labyrinth for walking and meditation. It’s grounding and centering to walk around, earthing as it were.

The Forest card reminds us to fully breathe as we go about our day. It may seem odd, but many of us don’t do that. Many hold their breath, or breathe shallowly. It’s as if we’re waiting for something awful to happen, and for many of us, we spent our childhoods doing just that. So, it’s a conditioned fear response. Then it becomes a habit that we do regardless of the situation we’re in. Breathing fully and mindfully centers and cleanses not only our bodies but also our energy as well. It’s restorative properties are endless. Ansuz, an Air sign rune, represents our breath, our life force.  It also represents our Akash, our collective wisdom.

I love the Cloud card. The very notion of shapeshifting is awesome to me. Transmutation at its finest. It reminds us that we are ever-changing, and we always have the chance to do as A Course in Miracles says, to “choose once again.” Everything is a choice and our power to choose is endless. Eihwaz represents regeneration and rebirth, with all Elemental energies converging together to create our inner spiritual energy.

Ours is a journey toward awakening. We “need do nothing”, as A Course In Miracles counsels, but remember who we are, extensions of Source Energy. Distracted by the ego-based world, it’s difficult to remain in alignment with Source. We become caught up in the energy of the drama around us, accepting whatever discomfort we feel from it as normal. Something so simple as mindful breathing can make all the difference. As breath purifies and cleanses, regeneration occurs, both life affirming and giving at the same time.

Our focus into physical form is just that: focus. Today’s final Sunday Earth Magic casting of the year suggests as we begin the new year, to be mindful of where we put that focus. And above all: breathe.

Earth Magic Oracle cards are available at Amazon or at pagan supply stores. Created by Steven D. Farmer, they’re simply wonderful and I highly recommend exploring them.

A Course In Miracles is available everywhere. It’s life-changing.
