Thoth 7222015

Aleister Crowley has an interesting take on tarot, albeit sometimes more negative in his interpretations than I prefer. His alliance with Lady Frieda Harris brought movement and energy to the Tarot cards that she designed. I’ve read excerpts from their correspondence during the years when she was designing them and it’s almost more interesting than the deck itself.

Today’s influences on the surface take a decidedly feminine slant. Two Court cards and a Trump, each signaling that women are a force to be reckoned with. Our energy, our presence, we are the genesis of creation, the Triple Goddess with the Princess of Cups as Maiden, the Queen of Wands as Mother, and Lust as Crone. A note about Lust. Crowley changed the names and the order of some of the cards to what made more sense to him. Judgment, for example, he changed to Aeon. In the DruidCraft deck, it’s changed to Rebirth. Judgment feels harsh to me, so I related better to both Aeon and Rebirth for that particular card. Lust replaces Justice in traditional decks. I see Lust as primal energy, which is totally Crone, for we have experienced it all.

Beginning with the Princess of Cups, we experience the emotional presence of the Princess, feeling her delight in new experiences, approaching the world with wonder and joy. She is practical yet gracious and her intuition flows abundantly. She is the empath, full of undeveloped potential. She is Goddess as Maiden.

Queens are a reflective influence, nurturing and guiding those they love. She is generous, talented and charming. The Queen of Wands brings a brilliance to the deck, and with her hand gently resting on the head of her jaguar, her catalytic energy resonates. She is the Witch, the Queen in all her glory. She is Goddess as Mother.

Lust as Crone. Crowley places this as the eleventh Trump of the Major Arcana. She is full wild wisdom and as Crone, possesses the power of the Goddess within her. She is unconditional love, and balanced reasoning. She is Justice in all expressions, but Justice from a primal sense. We all come from Source Energy, where true justice resides. No judgment, only love. The Goddess as Crone holds up the world. She is the foundation of all. She is the primal force of creation. She is Goddess as Crone.

Wow..that was pretty cool..

Today we go forth into the world, in remembrance and expression of the magnificence of the Goddess within.
