Herb of the Week: Agrimony

Agrimony or Agrimonia Eupatoria is a plant ruled by the planet Jupiter and the sign Cancer, and it corresponds with Thursday. Ruled by Elemental Air, its power is To Know and its direction is East, but it can also correspond to the South, or North. Other names for Agrimony include sticklewort and church steeples, and it has a balanced energetic effect. Deities associated with Agrimony are the angel, Sachiel, and the Olympic Spirit, Bethor.

Magickal uses include:

  • causes sleep
  • protection from negativity
  • strengthens resolve
  • exorcism
  • useful in mojo/charm/gris gris bags
  • ritual washes
  • aspersion

Medicinal qualities and purposes:

Agrimony is astringent, therefore cooling and drying. It tones tissue and helps to close wounds, stop bleeding, and dry up secretions. Agrimony is also useful in toning and healing both the liver and urinary systems, and is considered to be anti-inflammatory.

Preparations:

Infusion, Tincture/Extract, Flower essence
