Angelica, or Angelica archangelica, is a plant ruled by The Sun and the sign Leo, and it corresponds with Sunday. Ruled by Elemental Fire, Angelica’s power is To Will and its direction is South. Other names for Angelica include garden Angelica, and it has a masculine or projective energetic effect. Deities associated with Angelica are the Goddess Venus, the archangel Michael, and the Olympic Spirit, Aratron.

. . .

Magickal uses:

  • Angelica root should be gathered in the hour of The Sun or Jupiter
  • Guards against baneful witchcraft and evil spirits
  • Removes hexes and curses
  • Extends blessings
  • Promotes healing

Medicinal qualities and purposes:

Angelica root is both a perennial and a biennial plant and it contains essential oils, terpenes, coumarins, miscellaneous sugars, acids, flavonoids, and sterols. The root is a tonic and carminative. It’s useful to treat fever, respiratory infections, digestive weakness, and as a diuretic. Angelica prefers partial shade (mine grows in my medicinal herb garden behind some hops for shade during the hottest part of the day) and grows to around 4 to 6 feet high. Sowing from seed is recommended.

Preparation: Decoction, Tincture
