Tiwaz. Named for the God, Tyr, Tiwaz represents justice, honor and self-sacrifice. Represented by Elemental Air, Libra is its astrological correspondence. Magicks of increase are favored, focusing upon victory, right thinking, health and swift recuperation. A Masculine energy rune, we employ the warrior spirit of Tiwaz, as we defend against negative forces. It represents our divine moral compass in the world.

The seventeenth rune in the Futhark, represents our ability to act with courage when afraid. It’s color is bright red or crimson, and crystal associations include bloodstone and hematite. Tarot correspondences include The Emperor, Justice, Strength, Star, and The World. Trees and herbs include the mighty oak, monkshood, and sage.

Tiwaz tells us that by trusting the Divine, we then trust in our own self. If drawn by a man in a reading, it represents himself. If drawn by a woman, it represents a male close to her.

As we confront injustice, Tiwaz gives us the strength, faith and discipline to be victorious within the construct of Divine Law. We easily see the benefit of analyzing facts before acting, and then acting from the point of unity, rather than conflict, recognizing our essential oneness and the positive effect we have when embracing each other with love and respect. Self-sacrifice for the greater good represents the awareness that we go forward together as we all continue our journey toward awakening.
